Meijiawu Tea Village is about 30 minutes from Hangzhou in the foothills of the West Lake district. This is a very picturesque drive along Meilingnan Road and has history of 100's years of tea plantations. The hills, valleys (everywhere) are planted with tea, nice landscaped villages.
At Meijiawu Tea village tour was brief but very interesting in how they showed you the processes and the benefits of this long time tradition.

Great place to visit for a day trip with family and kids. it is culturally a valid trip and also an interesting activity especially for spending time with your family instead of staying at home on computer and video game. your kids have lots to learn and appreciate. it is also an occasion to know more about Hangzhou culture, heritage and tradition.

Got the impression that there will be a tourist spot / information centre. When the taxi took me to the Meijia Wu village he asked me where he should drop me off, and I had absolutely no idea that Meijia Wu is a tea village! Silly me.
I got off at the car park and walked up the mountain, saw a few tea farms, very impressive! The whole village is full of the old dynasty taste and you can find a tea shop every one to two houses apart.
Also take your time to walk down to the YunXi Zhujing spot, a great way to start your day!

We visited here as part of a tour. It was quite interesting to see the hills with all the tea fields covering them and the locals in the fields picking it. At Meijiawu Tea Village we were given a demonstration and presentation of the local tea. They explained the health benefits and gave us some to try. Then came the sales pitch. The area is very pretty and interesting.

We went during summer which is not the season for plucking tea leaves. So we were brought straight to the tasting and education room. The marketing girl was impressive with good English and her ability to explain. However, be careful with trying to ship your tea overseas. They tend to over promise. We wanted to ship our tea to our home overseas which they said could do at no additional cost but we received a call the next day to say can’t do and the best they could was to send it to our hotel in Hangzhou. Which was inconvenient as we had purchased quite a bit. Other than that, the tea is super quality

Meijia Dock is famous for its tea, locates in the west of Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Spot. This village has a history of 600 years, surrounded by mountains and clean water. It has now become a scenic spot which is characterized by natural village and tea culture scenic spot.
We went to Meijia Dock not just to taste Longjing Tea, but enjoy our vacation and buy some tea. I like to drink green tea very much. Even though I have the habit of drinking tea, I don’t know how to pick and make tea. Finally I realize my hope of picking and making tea. There is always a confusing concept that what kind tea can be Longjing tea. Until 2009, the resisted brand mark of Longjing tea made it clear that only tea produced in West Lake district, Qiantang district and Yuezhou district can be called Longjing tea. In Meijia Dock, I am told by native people that there are West Lake Longjing and Zhejiang Longjing. West Lake Longjing is produced in Lion Mt., Longjing Village, Yun Xi area, Hupao area. Tea produced in other area of Zhejiang province is called Zhejiang Longjing. I really enjoy myself here and konw more konledge about Longjing tea.

I thought they were taking me to a tea house...,
and they did!. But to see a tea farm was a huge surprise.
I´ve seen pictures of rice fields.... but never of tea fields...I've drank tea, but have never seen the tea plant! I have bought different teas in several countries, but never knew the process of hand picking each tea leave... and drying, before it can be used. Or the difference between the spring, summer, and autumn tea.. ( tea categories.., from best to worst, depending on when it is harvest)
Or the meaning of how much water they put in your glass and the leaf position, or the two finger tapping three times on the table... ( all part of the tea ceremony).
Learned something different, and enjoyed the place very much..
of course, I ended buying tea.

We visited in November. There was no leave plucking activity so we were just shown the history and how tea was processed. Then we were brought to a garden, and the guide there explained about the various types of teas, and presented each of us with a cup of longjin tea, which is reputedly the best in the area. To make a good cuppa, 80 degrees hot water is poured onto the tea. Should not be at boiling point. And after drinking first cup, the second cup has a stronger aroma, and one can add on water to the cup for up to 5 or 6 times without losing the flavour of the tea.

Hi, I will be travelling WITHOUT a tour company. Is it possible to do tea picking activities at the end of April 2019 with an English speaker at the tea plantation, and how much would that be?

Is it easy to get to from Hangzhou, or can you easily book day trips from Hangzhou? Thanks!

Thank you for the opportunity to ask. Several years ago visited the tea village as part of a day tour from Shanghai and I thought I would like to re-visit and stop-over . Now I have the opportunity and need advice on accommodation recommendations really in the village--not back at the city.. Any advice please? Ray Moss , Australia
