Memorial site near Xihu
Mar 2018 • Couples
Tomb of Wu Song was located near to Guahong Bridge of Xihu. It was built to memorise the famous local hero in past time but the present tomb should be a re-built one.

I found this place because I was lucky to take a boat tour on the West Lake and one of the stops was close to it. Ok, been there, saw that.

Who is Really Buried Here
Dec 2015
Wu Song is a famous character from the classical Chinese novel, Water Margin, so how a fictional character ended up with his own tomb on the shores of West Lake in Hangzhou escapes me.

In the novel Wu Song is a larger-than-life character, very partial to strong drink and partying. He has many adventures, including killing a tiger, avenging his brother's death and becoming a fugitive outlaw, and at one stage a monk - before he was kicked out because of his drinking and carousing habits.

I have an old Chinese scroll painting of Wu Song, so I was particularly interested to see that he is such a revered figure in Chinese folklore, that he has been granted his own tomb.

But I wonder who is really buried here.

Tomb of Chinese hero in the history rebuilt according to original style in 2004
