I am a flower lover so I do like the flowers decorated everywhere. Although the weather maybe hot on November we still stayed 3 hours walking around as it is a big park.
Visited on Nov 2019.

Used to be a venue world expo in 1999. However, after so many years, this park is a bit run down with lack of maintenance on the man-made lakes and landscapes.

A bit disappointed when visited the park with family, especially the entrance ticket is not cheap (I.e. RMB150).

We found found out many algae, leaves on the lakes, which shows that no maintenance or poor maintenance.

In conclusion, the management of this park should do better job especially they have collected relatively high entrance fee.

From downtown Kunming we took one or two city buses. The city buses are cheap and a little uncomfortable. But if you know how to use one, or have a guide, you don't need a taxi or tour bus.

The park is huge! We arrived around lunch time and left near closing. There wasn't enough time to see everything. Each exhibit is beautiful in its own way. There are restrooms and places to get beverages etc. You can get a ticket for a cart to take you to exhibits and walk around. They are on a timetable (in their heads?) and you can ride the carts around to different exhibits. Walking is not recommended unless you are an avid walker. Keep in mind any altitude differences you may have between there and home.

There's a jade museum and hall you can buy things at. Entrance and exit are different, no turn around. You have to go through the merchandise area. I can not attest to the quality.

Bring some water, and if you take pictures it's helpful to have practiced high light conditions. We did not experience any theft or vendor harassment. I would rank it third for the area (Karst Caverns, Stone Forest, World Expo). See it last if you think there's a time crunch in your schedule.

I am from Vietnam and I was very angry after watching the video of the monkey cages in this department. I feel that the management does not really care about the lives of these important little animals and lets the monkeys torture them. There has been no human morality for many years. Everything has cause and effect. The zoo is closed and people come in and out. I say this to repent for my bad karma. I accept this so that every employee in this department must pay the price for their actions!

You really cant visit Kunming without taking a trip to the Kunming World Expo. Its gardens are simply breath taking, another the walkways and picturesque stops throughout the Expo Gardens are really great. Its a very relaxing and peaceful day out. There are restaurants that serve everything from simple noodles right up to gourmet meals, and its an ideal day out fo the entire family. The admission charge is quite low and well worth it.

This attraction has a number of slightly different names. It is also known as the World Horticultural Expo Garden and this entry relates to one exhibition hall that has a floral display based around a huge commanding floral peacock. Patterns of colour are created by assorted flowers and they make up the display of the peacock which lies at the centre of the hall. The rest of the display space in the hall has a large number of scenes created by different plant types and by large, often dream-like, idyllic scenes around the walls. It is easy to spend an hour wandering around and admiring the displays. Prior to entry into the display hall, visitors are treated to a 4 D display on the ceiling of a nearby room. It portrays nature in an idealistic and natural world. Well worth a visit.

Great Gardens, it will take you many hours to see them all, so budget your time accordingly.

Sadly, the focus now seems to be selling Jade in the "Jade Museum", and not on the Gardens themselves, many attractions/halls were closed and it was very apparent that selling Jade was now the #1 goal.

Still, it is a very good and worthwhile attraction.

This was an expo in 1999. The theme was gardens of the world. But it is the place to see plants from different parts of China and different gardening styles in China. The greenhouse is huge and an Ok botanical graden -- with some orchids. The cost is 100 yuan to enter. But worth it. I spent 4 + hours. Great for photography. Kite flyers. The front was getting setup for the May Day celebration in a couple of days with massive flower displays in many shapes. For me it was the small typical Chinese garden replicated showing the different concepts of gardening thru the centuries that charmed me. The grounds are very large and show most of the plants found in China in many different climate zones. The most interesting attaction I found in Kunming

This place is where they held the 1999 World Hortico Expo. It covers a huge area and you need at least fours to see it all. The most impressive area is the Chinese outdoor exhibition. There are streets showcasing various counties of China. The gardens and pavilions are amazing and so well kept. The international sites are disappointing as they are not maintained as well as the Chinese ones. If you are coming to Kunming this should be top of your list. About a 23RMB ($6) taxi ride from the city.

This is one of the better places to visit in kunming, a selection of gardens from around the world. Rumors has it that even Queen Lizzie herself visited the place while in China. At a loss to understand why they named it the world expo center! On the negative side it's not the cheapest experience and be sure to bring a few sandwiches as available food is very limited and no English menu or English speaking staff in the restaurant.
