Located in the far north of the city, thhe e Botanical Gardens are more of a place for local families to while away a sunny afternoon than a must-see for tourists to Kunming. Take a book and a hammock and set yourself in the less-frequented West Garden. It's a nice break from the hustle and busetle of the city.

Late in November, it's the best time to enjoying the stunning view of the red maple tree avenue. It's not easy to see red maple trees cover almost half of the hill in Kunming such a sub-tropical area, comparing with northern part of China. There are also quite a porpular site to take wedding photoes for young guys. It's also a good place for family with kids to picnic during the weekends on its huge lawn.

Why build an enormous glass house, fill it with beautiful plants and then lock it so no one can enter? The glass house should be the crowing glory of this nice botanical garden but it is frustratingly locked for most of the year. I don’t get it. Disappointing day out.

The newly built botanical garden Fuli Palace in this park is the most inaccessible garden I have ever visited around the world. Apart from the required extra ticket( which is not mentioned at the entrance of the park), visitors are not allowed to visit the green houses themselves unless they pay for the tour guide. However, the tour guide service is only available once an hour( one and half an hour during noon time). If the visitor is late for even five minutes, he has to wait for fifty minutes for the next tour guide service. The tour guide service is so limited that most visitors have to wait outside the locked greenhouses. Really terrible experience.
