Shangri-la or Dongchuan Red land in mid-October (2 Replies)
Will be visiting Kunming/Lijiang with 3 days to spare. Can't decide between Shangri-la and Dongchuan red land. Is the scenery good in October in Dongchuan? Thanks.

Dongchuan is supposed to be pretty at that time of year, though cannot confirm from firsthand experience. Shangri-La should also be OK in October.

1 day trip to Dongchuan Red land (2 Replies)
I will visit Kunming 15-18 Sept and I plan to visit Donchuan Red land on 16 Sept. Is it possible to find private tour guide or private taxi?

Possible but not worth it. Dongchuan is a bit too far to do as a daytrip. If you can't make it a 2 day trip with overnight, forget it.

I don't personally know of any, though they doubtless exist. Would suggest you contact some of the people who posted favorable reviews of their lodging experience and ask them more about where they stayed. It's not an area that has well developed tourist infrastructure and you will have a hard time finding out much about lodging there through the usual booking engines.
