A very impressive building design. It was so big it was like an international airport. The place is very organised and even for us who speak no Mandarin, it was easy to navigate.

We used the high speed trains in China twice, once from Beijing to Xi'an and then from Xi'an to Chengdu. I recommend using them, they are efficient, comfortable, reasonably priced and presumably a lot better for the environment than flying. From Beijing to Xi'an our train travelled at an impressive 300kph. There was a large staff on the train to help with cleaning, serving food, checking tickets and generally being helpful. Food and drink on board was reasonably priced (e.g. around £2 for a beer) and there is also hot water available on board, so if you take your mug and teabag or noodles you can have free tea and food. The toilets on board were very clean for the entire 5h journey. Xi'an North Station is very clean, spacious and easy to navigate. If only the rail companies in the UK would visit China and take note, the lives of UK commuters and tourists would be transformed.

I arrived into Xian NORTH railway station which is also the HSR station .. ARRIVING and then getting into the subway was quite straight forward. ONLY need to figure out how to buy a single way subway tix on the ticketing machine.

BUT for the return from subway to HSR, it meant getting out of the subway station and LOOKING for the entrance to the HSR .. as the Xian NORTH Railway is a VERY big stations with over 30 (or 60 platforms if one considers the A&B) platforms. There was NO signage to lead from Subway to HSR. I did ask some fellow passengers BUT it too was not clear for them. They were also looking for signage (which is almost not visible). Therefore ONE need to give yourself sufficient time to locate. Although the HSR station is only upstairs from subway arrival platform, time is required to locate this. ENSURE sufficient time !!

I wish the signage is clear and marked also in English. And the escalator passage from Subway to HSR is very dim .. WISH it is more brightly light up.

This is one impressive train station.Very well marked, easy to move around, super clean. Our tour guide assisted us, so not sure how it would be if you don't speak the language.Seems more efficient than Beijing.

The architecture, design, cleanliness and efficiency of these public buildings make ours look like Third World facilities! China has the biggest bullet train network in the world. We went from Beijing to Xi'an at over 300 Kilometers per hour for 4 hours and arrived at this fabulous station! Wow what a ride!

Alan H has done an excellent job of describing this station and yes, it is "one of the best railway stations". I did not come into this station by Didi taxi, but by the overnight "Z" train from Beijing. If your plan is to go to the Xi'an Terracotta Warrior Army site after having taken the train, keep your ticket. Go to the Information Center, south of the entrance to Subway Line 2 on level B1, buy your ticket to the Terracotta Warrior Army site, show them your train ticket and voila they will give you a "free" ticket to take the bus to the site. If you have difficulty finding it, the cost of the bus ride is still very reasonable. Buses are on the south side - follow the crowd. If you are looking to take the shuttle bus to the airport, you can get it abut 500 metres away in a somewhat hidden location. I do not know the street. Ask. All I know is the shuttle bus cost 25 Yuan, a taxi 125 Yuan...

The station is great. It has a metro stop right inside and the station is easy to get around. This is the station you use for fast trains to Huashan and Beijing (and plenty of other places).

Only suggestion - pick up your tickets early or get there with plenty of time to spare. When I was traveling at 8am I had to queue for about 45 minutes to pick up my tickets.

You can pick up your tickets any time and from any station (5RMB cost if it's not the same station you travel from), so try to do it prior to travel if you can't get there nice and early on the day.

This was my 2nd experience of Chinese transportation and like my 1st I was highly impressed. We arrived and departed Xi'an from here without any issues. This is another big, busy station but so very well laid out and easy to navigate. You have to go through security but it was fast and efficient. Inside the large station is clean and well laid out. The gates are well marked and all signs are in Chinese and English. If possible have your tickets purchased in advance, we had 3 journeys pre-planned and all ticket delivered to our hotel in Shanghai, and just check for your boarding area, again just like the airport, and just wait for your gate to open and the proceed to your platform and board. There are plenty of shops and food outlets. Arrive approximately 60 mins before departure if possible to give yourself time to get through security etc.

I needed to take a train too Changsha. The station is located about 12km out of town. It is massive, but once you have your ticket and have cleared security, it is pretty easy to find out where you have to go to catch your train. I love the bullet train network in China, it blows many other nations' rail networks right out of the water.

We traveled with High Speed Train from Lanzhou West to Xi'an North.
The train station is huge, the largest we encountered during our train travel in China; more imposing than airport in Xi'an.
However, we have no problem finding our way to Subway Line 4 as there are clearly marked directions.
