We had a great time in Xi'an - our guide, Eric, was very friendly, spoke excellent English and was proud to share a great deal of knowledge with us about the history of this interesting city.

A highlight for us was seeing the incredible Terracotta Soldiers and again Eric was great at explaining the history behind the phenomenal structure.

The hotel arranged by China Odyssey Tours was excellent - clean, elegant rooms, delicious breakfast and very central to shops, bars and restaurants. We had a great time exploring Xi'an and Eric ensured we were familiar with other places of interest (bar street, underground markets etc) once we'd finished the scheduled itinerary. He also went out of his way to help us with some computer problems we were having while we were there.

A great company that ensures your stay in China is exactly what YOU want it to be!!!!

Today I want to introduce the city called Xi’an.If you want to come to China,Xi’an is very famous and you must visit the Terra-Cotta warrior.
Last Sunday I went to Xi’an with my family .It was very comfortable (It was hot in summer and cool in winter).Because when we arrived in Xi’an,it was time to have a dinner so we decided to taste the local snacks in Xi’an.The food in Xi’an always tasted very delicious! I recommend that you can try the famous food there like Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup and Shanxi steamed cold noodles. The food in Xi’an always is the traditional food which is the essence of Chinese food.If you go to the local restaurant, you can have a lot of choices so you can have flavour of different noodles.
Chinese-style hamburgers is very famous in all of Xi’an snacks. Actually it is a wonderful combination of the foods: Dried juice meat, steamed white bread. Many Chinese and foreigners like it very much!
What about the Terra-Cotta warrior? It’s amazing and the scene is a must in Xi’an.The Museum of Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses is praised as 'the eighth major miracle of the world', Mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang is listed on the World Heritage List. There are a lot of soldiers which were made of stone by the ancient craftsman. Maybe you need much time to visit it. I visited it and thought it was really old culture and it was really interesting!
Hua qing Pool is also a famous palace in Xi’an.Hua qing Palace, is a well-known historic site. It gets its fame for being the place where the romantic story of Emperor Tangxuanzong of Tang Dynasty and his beloved Yang Guifei took place. You can be very relax in the hot spring, is absolutely the holy land of leisure and health.
All in all,I think this trip was really interesting and I saw lots of amazing scenes!

Tips: You’d better go to Xi’an in Spring and in Autumn. You need wait for a long time when you visit the Terra-Cotta warrior because there are so many people there ! So you don’t forget to take something to kill the time.

We had Lulu as our guide through China Odyssey Tours . What can we say Lulu you were an absolute delight . So attentive , so funny , so helpful . Lulu's passion when describing the history of her city was commendable . We were truly well looked after and we missed her when we had to move on . We have travelled a fair bit and were always keen to try some more local food than perhaps most travellers , nothing was too much trouble for Lulu and we gained a huge insight into local traditions and customs through the eyes of Lulu. The terracotta warriors and Hangyang Tombs came to life with Lulu sharing her extensive knowledge of the sites . Lulu we will never forget you, Remember Number 1 emergency ;) Jenny and Laurie York , Jeanette and Ian Buntine Western Austalia

We took a one day private tour to see the terracotta warrior, part of the tour include the ancient city wall & small wild goose pagoda.
Tour started with a stop where they said you can make your own warrior, it was an non affair, took less than 5mins, where they gave you a clay mold for you to try. Main thing is to get you to buy things.
Tour at the terracotta was ok and it went down hill from there.
The lunch that we went had very bad service. One of the dishes did not arrive and went we checked with the guide, he said that they were preparing it. It turned out that they have forgotten it and we left without the dish. To make matters worse, I had bad diahorrea and vomited out my lunch that night.
Small wild goose pagoda has free admission, and you can do it on your won without a guide.
Ancient city wall was also ok, but you wouldn't have the time to cycle due to the time.
Overall what a waste of money.

Our 7 days China trip includes 2 days in Xi'An with Ivan. We were very happy with our tour guide and driver as we had some bad experience with China Odessey in LouYang/DengFeng. We understood chinese very well except for the 2 of us so Ivan continued to explain everything in english which was professional. Also, he was honest enough to inform us the dinner budget from yesterday was not fully used so he topped up next day's lunch with more beer. At one point, we even get ~1 bottle of beer per person !

Appreciate the recommendation of going to muslim street and west Han emperor tomb near the Xi'An airport. Way smaller scale compared to Terra-cotta but the hologram show was really interesting.

However, i agree with most of the reviewers here that the lunch in Terra-cotta museum was a bad one. Would be perfect if we could just skip this touristy restaurant. :)

Dear Nibojack, You are really nice to share your Xian experience with us on Trip Advisor. We will take your suggestion of replace the restaurant in the Terra-cotta museum by other local ones. In this way, our new clients will have better meals there. For the Luoyang part, we sincerely apologize and will improve our service in general. Again, thank you for choose China Odyssey Tours as your tour operator this time and looking forward to your next trip with us! Warmest regards, Maggie Yang You are not alone with Odyssey

We unfortunately travelled to Xi'an in Summer which, for people in their 60's, proved to be very testing. The sights were amazing and despite the oppressive heat still a memorable experience.
We travel to Asian countries at least once every year and this was our first experience with a tour company. Without China Odyssey Tours we would have been lost ( very little signage in English ) and not able to see the many temples and places we were taken ( We will build in some down time on our next tour ... too much value for money ).
We had a great guide, Eric, and a terrific driver who got us to the places we needed to see and experience. They got us to our hotels each night where we collapsed before trying to find somewhere to eat ( not enough assistance in this area ). Many people in this area do not speak English and it is very hard to order dinner when the menu is in Chinese with no pictures.
Had a bad experience on the City Wall ... had to walk about 9 km. back to our transport as people selling tickets for the electric buses decided they wouldn't sell us a ticket ( still unsure why but their laughing at us didn't help the situation ... couldn't use bikes as the wife had injured her leg a few days earlier ).
When we were with our guide and driver everything went very smoothly. Strongly suggest using a tour service, and China Odyssey is a good one.
We loved the food in this part of the country.
We were taken back by the manners of many of the people. No pleases or thank you and first in best dressed seems to be the rule. Our guide, driver and hotel staff were the only people who used their manners.
If you are travelling to this part of the country and have breathing difficulties eg. asthma, rethink travelling to Northern China. There is so much smog and dust from demolition and subsequent construction that you could not see the views in the distance or the second line of buildings.

We highly recommend China Odyssey Tours. Xi'an was part of our 15 day tour and this part of the tour, like all the rest, was very well organized. Our travel consultant, Vincent, prepared an excellent itinerary for us and fit in every thing we wanted to do. Our guide in Xi,an, Ray, was extremely knowledgeable and approachable. Our driver was very friendly and drove carefully. Ray did not rush us at any of the sights - he let us enjoy everything at our own pace.

Xian, a city famous for the Terra-cotta Warriors could never have been as enjoyable with out our China Odyssey Tour guide Coco. She and a driver picked us up at the airport.( having guides at the airports is very helpful because unlike many other places English signage was sometimes sparse...especially in smaller airports and Tibet) Our guide Coco was very animated, knowledgeable, and delightful. Upon her insistence we rose early and left to see the Warriors at 7:00 am. BRILLIANT move! We were one of the first tourist of the day and had an incredible experience.( by the time we left it was wall to wall people) Again, though there was signage in English it was minimal. I highly recommend a guide to explain and walk through this incredible site!
While in Xian we also saw the beautiful City Wall with Coco.( leave time to rent a bicycle on top of the wall), the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and park ( where we enjoyed one of my very favorite things, a Calligraphy class! My husband and I each made a souvenir of the character for Happiness on rice paper with ink and learned a little about the origin of the pictographic characters.) in this same building was a neat little art gallery of both prominent and local artist. We ended this day with a spectacular Chinese foot rub! What more could you ask for!?
Coco our guide took us to the airport and as did our Odyssey guide, Chris in Shanghai, held our hands through the nuances of over weight luggage etc. She also had in hand our Tibetian Visas, which were like gold we later learned and difficult to get. On the whole I would say that in every way we owe our great trip all over China to Odyssey, their guides never pushed us into tourist trap or insisted on shopping that we didn't want and even helped us barter in places that we did decide to shop. they seemed very honest, intelligent and knowledgable about their respective cities.

We went to the Mutianyu section with China Odyssey Tours. This section was less crowded and doing a Private Tour you get to allocate the time spent there. Our tour guide was amazing and I highly recommend China Odyssey Tours

Thank you to Leo at China Odyssey Tours for the arrangements in Xian. We were fortunate to have Eric as our guide and Mr Wang our driver. Both very competent and eager to share their love of the area. Eric was very helpful with shopping and food choices and happy to be flexible with the daily arrangements. His knowledge of the history of the Terracotta warriors made it a very real experience.
