A beautiful place to see. After a 10km bike ride on a city bike I did not have to pay any entrance fee and as a welcome gift everyone received a mask and a bottle of water. It was yet close to 40 degrees. The place is beautiful, full of colors, definitely worth for taking photos. Also monks have there regular sessions, many people go to pray there. For me, as I like visiting temples, this was the most beautiful one within our 12 day trip by car around Sichuan and Shaanxi.

Great little temple complex and unlike most things in Xian, it is free to enter. It was surprisingly uncrowded, maybe because it is tucked away in the North West corner of the Old City with no other major sights around.

Great to spend 1 hour and gives a bit of variety to your visit to Xian. If you have 3 days or more on Xian, add this to your list of things to see.

We first saw the Guangren Lama Temple from the walls of the City as we cycled around them. Incorrectly located outside the walls on the trip advisor map, the temple is actually nestles inside the Walls in their North West corner. We used the Xi'an metro to get to a stop a 15 min walk from the temple.

This is the only Tibetan Buddhist monastery in this part of China and is quite distinctive. White Stupas, myriads of bunting and flags and the like as well as the usual Bhuddist temple features of courtyards incense burners and large Buddhas.

Largely devoid of tourists - certainly off the trail for huge tour groups - this temple feels authentic and one can wander around hassled by anyone - there is the usual sales of incense and charms and so on, however certainly no pressure to buy. We left early evening and the temple was feeding local vagrants and down and outs. A real local touch.

The physical structure is impressive - a treat for photographers and the staff (cleaners and Monks) were very friendly. Other than the fact that it's not in the right place on the map i can't for the life of me work out why this place isn't higher up the priority list for visitors.

Very Highly recommended.

We became aware of the Guangren Temple while we were riding bikes on the north west corner of the Xi'an City Wall and the first thing that caught our eyes were some of the golden roofs on the buildings. A couple of days later, we decided to walk to the temple as we were staying at a local inn located in the centre of the old city walls. It was a very pleasant walk to the temple. We passed through some interesting neighbourhoods and when we got close to the temple, it was well signed. Our Xi'an inner city map showed the temple as the "Lama Temple". The entrance fee for the temple is 20 yuan per person, which was our cheapest entrance fee to any attraction. The temple grounds are not that big, but it was fascinating to walk throughout the grounds. The Tibetan Buddhist Temple was built over 300 years ago. It has been used by Dalai Lamas, Pancheen Lamas as well as generations of Tibetan Buddhist leaders from Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai and Gansu who were travelling through the area. The temple houses cultural treasures which includes the temples "Eight Treasures", six inscription boards and six magic trees. It has a very peaceful atmosphere throughout the grounds and we saw monks and other people praying at different locations.

The only Tibetan Buddhist temple in Shaanxi Province.

The Guangren Temple is located in the northwestern corner of the Xi'an City Wall and is the only Tibetan Buddhist temple in Shaanxi Province. It was built under the imperial order of Emperor Kangxi (1654-1722) of the Qing Dynasty when he inspected west China in 1703. It was the temporary residence for Tibetan Buddhist leaders on their way to Beijing for audiences with the emperors.

I talked to some of the monks--two could certainly speak Tibetan. And the other could certainly speak Mongol. There were, I was told, about 10 monks there - half were Mongol and the other half were Tibetan. The art was in the style of modern Reb gong art.

Your satisfaction with this site will depend on what you are looking for. It is not a grand Tibetan temple in the style of what you would find in Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, or the Tibet Autonomous Region, but of interest to me because it is the only Tibetan temple in Shaanxi Province. It is also important to local Han Chinese.

There was no entry fee when we visited in 2012. This may have changed.

Of note is the Tibetan art shop across from the temple. They have some outstanding and incredibly over-priced thangka, and other high-quality Tibetan art, e.g., sculpture. The thangka include painted, applique, and embroidered ones.

Entry is free at the only Tibetan temple in Xi’an. It appeared quite new as it’s freshly painted. We spotted some painters finishing off the last few rafters. It must take great skill to repaint this multi coloured temple. Do look up to scrutinize the intricate ceiling design. Built around 300 years ago and rebuilt in 1952, the temple is very well maintained. We were lucky to visit when the sky was blue - the perfect foil to set off the vibrancy of the kaleidoscope of colours. It’s such a feast for the eyes!

it's not a big temple, but well worth going to. It's where the Dalai lama stays when he visits china. It's a blast of colour and a haven of peace.

You'll find this temple in the top north west corner inside the city walls. I'm amazed it's not a bigger attraction in Xian, as it really is so pretty and calming.
It was first built in 1705 but appears to have been rebuilt on a number of occasions since then. It's the only Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the whole province. The buildings aren't on a vast scale but they are very peaceful with prayer flags strung between then and numerous prayer wheels dotted around.
If you have any interest in temples or would just like a calm place to visit in Xian then this is a good option.

Also known as Guangren Lamma Temple.
It is a beautiful Tibetan Buddhist temple. The temple architecture, fittings and decorations display heavy chinese influence.
Unfortunately they have only a chinese speaking guide and very little or no english translation. But if you are familiar with Tibetan Buddhism, you may recognize the shrines and deities (or at least make an educated guess).
Please wear respectful attire. This is a real temple, you can see monks crossing the courtyard as they go about their duties.
You can purchase a candle and make an offering. The donation goes to the temple upkeep.
