They do have a bell that is much older at about 1300 years old. Do note they close at 530pm each day so come earlyVisited March 2024Traveled on businessWritten March 13, 2024
- MM0980Leipzig, Germany662 contributionsBell towerWe still had time and went to the Bell Tower. In the underpass you can buy tickets (30 RMB) using a QR code. Then the usual bag checks follow and lighters have to be handed in. A 2-hour visit is recommended. We saw everything in 30 minutes. You can see a gate of the city wall. Each door of the Bell Tower is engraved with - I believe - stories from ancient China. Short but interesting visit.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 3, 2024

You don't need to wander around dusty rooms or know the entire history... If so, head to Xi’an Bell Tower and Drum Tower, which are a few minutes apart, after dark. Both structures are beautifully lit up and much more interesting to look at than during the day. Additionally, many Chinese girls dressed in historical costumes show up to take selfies - they are also fun to photograph.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 13, 2024

The entrance was a little confusing though. The underground signs say Exit 7, but actually the more accurate location should be the exit from metro Line 2 escalator (as one comes up from metro platform to the roundabout exits).
The ticketing area is an automated self-service one but requires a local ID so I had to ask the staff for help and she used her ID to bypass the system for me. Later realised I could have just bought it on the CTrip app too, since the automated system uses Ctrip's system too. The prices are the same. Entrance fees are CNY30 per tower or CNY50 for both.Â
The entrance to the Bell Tower is just beside the ticketing area. Followed the path through security checks and finally made it to the Bell Tower, which sits in the middle of the city in a roundabout.Â
The Bell Tower was critical in the past to indicate time. Hence, there are a number of such similar towers in other cities such as Beijing. Today, it's more of a historic presence and showcase of ancient finess in architecture and construction. The architectural structure, the drawings within, the construction of such a huge bell.Â

Small site, easy to get to, easy to see. A combines ticket for the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower is worth it. Foreigners without Chinese ID cards should buy tickets online through CTrip. Can also do that onsight by scanning a QR Code. Passport information is required, though documents themselves were not checked.

We visited in July 2020 and were hoping to see the landmark but it is under restoration. From what I have been reading they ring the bells at sunrise and there is a bell there that was made in 711! This is in the centre of the ancient city walls and a large traffic circle. You wouldn't have to go far out of your way to see it.

Though the Bell Tower makes for a great 45 tour, it's exceptional to view from the exterior at night. I recommend visiting the bell tower and drum tower in the late afternoon, using the combo ticket, exploring the local area and returning to view the lights before hitting up the night market.

What a marvelous site. Each time I saw the tower it was night. Although the city has threaded lights all over the bell tower. It glows in the night!
Catch glimpses of locals dressed in traditional garments as they pose for creative photos.
Shop nearby the towers and experience the taste of Xi’an. The streets are wide for walking or cycling.

There isn't much here honestly, but if you can put your mindset into that of being in the Ming Dynasty and you enjoy history you will have a good time.
There is only Chinese for the text panels, so if you know Chinese there will be alot of more information for you to take in.
Its best to buy the Bell Tower and Drum Tower combination tickets. They are close to each other and both worth visiting.

For newbies in Xi'an like I was, I had no idea how to get there as it is in the middle of a roundabout. Anyways, you gotta go through the subway tunnel to get to the Bell Tower entrance. This tower is suitable for a quick visit. Nice view at the centre from the tower, museum inside. Take some nice photos and go.

Worth a quick look! Was lovely to see, especially at night when it was lit up - but don't plan on spending long here. Come and see, stroll along to the drum tower and then head off somewhere else. There was a starbucks with a view right next to it which was a welcome sight as it was pouring with rain during my visit!

Nice little tower. Small fee to get in. The towers are a few hundred years old. You can practice Thai Chi late afternoon or early in the AM. Not far from other main attractions in downtown Beijing.

Built in 1384 (although reconstructed and moved to its current location about 700 years ago), it is China's most admired bell tower. Visit the interior museum to grasp the history and see the amazing artifacts from the region, some being over 2,000 years old.
