I strolled my way from the Shuyuanmen Culture Street to Luomashi Shopping Street. It was a modern fashion street commercialized with shops, malls and eateries. It reminded me of Wangfujing in Beijing and Nanjinlu in Shanghai. I was also surprised to find a Walmart supermarket at the corner of the commercial street. I took the escalator down to the supermarket and again was surprised there was another underground pedestrian street below.
I decided to go into the Walmart to have a look and was told to safe keep my backpack in the locker before entering. It was quite a big supermarket and the range of goods carried was quite wide. I went to the fruit section and found most of the fruits were imported. The foreign imported fruits were expensive but still I see the locals bought them. I asked one of the local customers as to the reasons why the supermarket don't carry local fruits and he preferred buying foreign fruits. He told me he is concerned of fruit safety in China. According to him, many unscrupulous fruit farmers resort to using illicit chemicals to `beautify' their fruits to make them more appealing or even used chemicals to accelerate the fruit ripening process. The local people had heard much of these through news and videos and were extremely worried of the carcinogenic consequences of eating their own local fruits. Most do not mind paying extra to buy the imported fruits from reliable countries like South Korea and as far as Australia, Finland, Canada, etc where food safety regulations are properly enforced.
It is sad to hear that some of the farmers in China resorted to the abuse use of chemicals just to profit themselves. I wonder if they know what business values and ethnics mean. It is really inhuman for one being to sacrifice the life of another just for money. It is imperative that the authority tightened control on food safety otherwise the consequence will be serious and people all over the world will be worried to consume products from China.
Tackling corruption is one issue and enforcing food safety regulation is another. These are fundamental issues bothering the minds of the people in China and I was surprised to hear the grievances of the locals of Luomashi in respect of food safety. It is a frank comment from a resident of Xian.
Walmart seem to provide a great service to the locals with their imported foreign fruits.

Our hotel was near this are and one of the top reasons to go here is because all of the great food and shopping. (though we prefer the food) The Three Sisters resto is one of the top places to eat in Xi'an so if you're in the area and have time to kill it's a fun spot. Know that there are also other shops below ground as well. Not a ton to do for little ones but enough to do

If this street once was worth mentioning it is not that anymore. It if just a pedestrianised street with the usual shops and a Starbucks at the beginning of the street. Nothing of interest to visitors to Xi'an: mid- to low range shops, shoes, handbags and a Walmart in an underground section of the street. Very close to Bell Tower and behind Kaiyan Department Store (another no interest to visitors place). It takes 5 minutes to walk the street from end to end.

We planned to spend just a few minutes but ended up over an hour having quenched our thirst with some tea in a cafe and looking in all the various knick knack shops some curios we had not seen anywhere else before and spent a couple of hundred yuan on some unique bargains

Another venue for spending money either on clothing, apparels, food and whatever not. This is good to look at and be done with it.
