The night we went there, the light was kind of a basic. The wall was lit up in purple but what we and other people enjoyed more was a concert. There were some local bands, mostly rock music, to play some famous Chinese hits on a stage right in front of the main gate to the City Wall. I enjoyed the music, did a lot of dancing with my daughter. But was surprised how boring other people were who mostly standing and recording, not even dancing despite the singer was trying to motivate them. Anyways, it was a great evening there. But the Light show was rather basic and I expected a bit more from that.

WOW, Once it got dark, the skies were lit up beautifully by in excess of 10,000 fancy lights of well-co-ordinated, vivid colours and shaped lanterns The techniques for making the lanterns are considered to be cultural heritage intellectual property.

The streets in the centre of Xi'an have been transformed providing some amazing displays on buildings and walkways. You can spend ages here in an evening. There were shows with music when we were there and it is all free. Amazing.

Viewed in the evening, the illuminations show the walls to the best advantage. The walls are intact and completely surround the old town, visit them if you have time.

we came here in May with a group, but it is easy to find yourself. The centre of Xian is taken over by wonderful illuminations. The walls and buildings just look spectacular. The shopping streets, pagodas and pedestrian areas are alive with coloured lights too. Everyone comes out to walk and relax and enjoy the displays.
Do not miss!

No longer just at Chinese New Year but all year round. Displays on the the city walls and along the street sloping down through the mall area towards the Big Goose Pagoda is a blaze of colour, lights, music, dancing, stalls etc and great fun. The Chinese community gather to promenade on dry nights. The dancing is to pop music on floors of squares which change colour as you step on them, to line dancing and ballroom dancing in the park area at the end of the mall. We also saw musicians in costume playing a concert with classical Chinese instruments. It made a great end to a busy day.

Beautifully decorated the city wall with light at night. The illumination enhance the night effect of the wall and gave different perspective to see the city wall.. you need to use the subway entrance to get to south door - 南门! great to take your picture from other side before crossing the road! Lovely visit..

This is a must see if you are in Xian. The photos don’t do the light show justice. The only negative is the night we watched it they were having some technical difficulties. But overall still amazing. It’s free and well worth seeing.

Our coach driver took us around the perimeter of the city walls with the lights all around plus each gate was lit with lanterns. We then drove to the new city and walked along the Main Street where there are statues made of bronze of the only Empress of China, Wu. Plus fountains and a large bronze statue depicting scenes from the Tang Dynasty. All beautifully lit. We then drove past the pagodas and summer palace again all beautifully lit. Well worth the effort
