We did a 5 day / 4 night cycling tour of Guilin and Yangshuo with Robert as our guide and Charlie as our driver. It was an excellent experience, we felt very well taken care of. The accommodation arranged by Robert was comfortable local guesthouses, and we were able to select our own accommodation for the nights in Yangshuo. Most meals were included and we enjoyed the tasty local food. Robert speaks excellent English and was very responsive via WeChat as we were organising the details of the tour. He is a passionate cyclist who went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met. As a beginner cyclist, I found the distances each day challenging but manageable. We did the tour in July, which is a very hot and humid time in Guilin. A cooler time of year would be better for most people! There was some climbing involved but nothing too challenging, and Charlie was there in the support vehicle with water and snacks. The countryside around Yangshuo is stunning and we were able to see so much of it by cycling. Highly recommended!

The two weeks were absolutely amazing. The routes had been well researched and planned, which made the cycling fun, there were tough days but they were rewarded with amazing views, sights, and food.
Our guides were top class and made sure that the bikes were always in tip top condition. We had a lot of history and culture explained along the way - as well as getting to understand daily life in China. It was a far more than just cycling.
Must call out the food, as eating local noodle for breakfast on the street was always a highlight.
Would do it again.

Thank you Mark and Robert for a fantastic introduction to the most awe inspiring landscape, food and culture of China. We did it ALL by biking, hiking, rafting and eating our way through Guilin, Yangshou, Li River and Ziyuan in 4 days. We met locals along the way, even being invited to a noodle house for dinner by an old high school friend of Mark's. What a special evening that was. And yet, another great evening was the Li River pageant of traditional colors and song that we attended, purchased with Robert and Mark's help.
This was our first time to China so we were unsure about all our plans (and there were many) coming together, plus the language and cultural differences. But Robert and Mark were great communicators and took such good care of us. Before we arrived, they emailed with us regularly making sure every detail was covered and information was clear. They even added a new venue to their tours, hiking the North side of Bjanjou National Park upon our suggestion.
Despite 4 days of heat Mark was flexible with our plans making adjustments quickly for our interests and comfort. We were delighted one day to be taken to a community where paper fans were made and painted depicting the famous Li River landscapes.
Biking or hiking early in the morning worked best for us then Mark would arrange alternative sightseeing trips with the air conditioned van to complete our day. Although the van is primarily used to transport bikes and gear it was a welcome reprieve from the heat. Just be aware there are no seat belts and limited seats!
After 4 days travelling and biking with Mark we felt comfortable and confident we could continue on through China by ourselves for the next two weeks. He taught us a lot and helped orient us to China. Mark is a incredible young man who cares thoughtfully for his clients, treating them as friends to which he joyfully shares China's greatest treasures; its people, landscapes and its stories as he rides the trail with you. Well Done and Bless you Mark and Robert!!!!
Thank you Marci and Frank

The past week I made a wonderful biking trip with Guilin Cycling Tours. Mark was my guide and he was very helpful and professional. he showed me the surroundings and told me a lot. He didn't mind to stop anywhere I wanted and he even picked me up and dropped me off at my hostel again with the bikes he already prepared as an extra service, as it was a private tour, this was so convenient, thanks again!
The trip was amazing, it took me through the rice paddies, narrow arrows, small villages and along the river back to the city. It was a quite challenging tour, but totally worth it.
Also, the communication before the trip was very good. I got response within a few hours, so all was arranged quickly. They were very keen on giving me advice about my trip to make sure it would suit me and I could get the best out of it. I would definitely recommend Guilin Cycling Tours to anybody!

Our group of 4 cycled for 5 days from Guilin to Yangshou and back through majestic scenic countryside. Tour organiser Robert Liu tailored the cycling to our requirements and we were very well supported by our cycling guide Mark who was outstanding and support vehicle driver Mr Bai all at a very modest cost. We ate spectacular Chinese food at great cafes and restaurants that we would have been unable to find ourselves. All of the staff involved in this tour were friendly and flexible enough to cater for different levels of cycling within our group on any given day. Highly recommend this company if you are touring in this beautiful part of China

I want to recommend the 4 days cycling tour from Guliln to Yangshu we did with Robert the instructor .
We are a couple that loves riding bicycles, nature and less crowded sites. When we first addressed to Robert we wanted to know if a cycling tour through nature and villages with as few main roads is even possible. Robert was very open minded and built us a tour exactly as we asked for.
Robert took us through amazing landscapes, fields and authentic villages, all the while we are totally alone (which is a very difficult thing to achieve in China).
Robert was very professional, he learned the paths and roads and navigates us easily. arranged for us on the way - kayaks, tracking and lights show that enriches our tour.
If you enjoy cycling, want to do something special and get a glance of the real beautiful China this Tour is most recommended for you !
some more info:
it was aprox 35-45 km of flat cycling per day.
we had a supportive vehicle to carry our luggage with very friendly driver Bay, who was in charge of our coffee breaks and bicycle maintenance
Robert also took care of food and accommodation

My husband and I spent 5 weeks cycling in Yunnan and Guilin provinces. We travel alot and have had different guides over the years. The Guilin Cycling Tour guides and drivers were the best we've ever had! They were very thoughtful, knowledgeable, fun and went the extra mile to ensure we had a spectacular trip. They did a fantastic job researching the best routes so that we were away from traffic and saw local life. The biking was amazing and diverse, and they tailored the route to our desires. We biked through spectacular mountain scenery, small villages, forests and more. They were very adaptable in adjusting the distance (and even dietary requirements) to our needs. In addition to the biking, we saw amazing dancing and world-class shows, and hiked in beautiful national parks. Yunnan and Guilin are both incredible in terms of culture and scenery. We'd always wanted to go to Tibet, and felt we experienced some of what it's like in Yunnan. We'd highly recommend Guilin Cycling Tours! We hope to travel with them again.

Hi Anne, I thought you were going to write a very long story about everything happened during our time together for those trips but it looks like you are such an excellent manager with great skills of making summary. We are so happy to be chosen by you from 20 bike tour companies and the tour with you in Yunnan was my most impressive thing (including my falling there) this year for sure, I hope we find ride somewhere else together again, big mountains! haha... Thank you for your bookings and your great lessons and suggestions to us, and thank you again for being open minded and calling Robert (me) as a great ambassador to China. You are also great representatives of Canadians and human with invisible sprits!

My husband and I had a few days to spare in Guilin/Yangshuo so signed up for a 4 day bike tour that took us through incredibly beautiful countryside in the area, including small ancient villages, scenic fields and challenging mountains which comprised part of the UCI Guangxi course. The course was mostly on-road but there was some off-road component as well which we really enjoyed. We stayed a night in Daxu, a picturesque old village in a lovely small hotel that was a converted historic house, and another night in Xingping in a more modern hotel in a room with a huge terrace with a stunning view overlooking the karst mountains.
Robert was our guide and did a fantastic job setting us up on our bikes, leading our cycling, ordering excellent local dishes for us to try at lunch and dinner etc. He also did well dealing with the sort of hiccups that are inevitable with travel such as a delayed flight arrival that meant a last minute change to our itinerary and then heavy rain that scuppered our cycling plans on the last day.
Arranging everything was also very smooth - quick and informative responses to my email enquiries then agreeing a detailed itinerary clearly stating the inclusions and exclusions in the price. I would highly recommend Guilin Cycling Tours

We are a family of three. we have one adult daughter who joined us - 18 years old. The trip was perfect from the time we were picked up at the train station throughout the week of cycling. The bikes were in good condition. Our guide Forest was fluent in english and a gentleman. He looked after our needs from first thing in the morning until the evening. You could feel comfortable with no knowledge of Chinese language. The roads we traveled had very little auto traffic and the roads were in excellent condition. We are not hard core cyclists and he chose a great itinerary. We cycled 25-35 miles daily. The van was always close-by if someone wanted a rest or needed a cycle repair. The scenery was stunning and the hotel choices were all great. All lodging had A/C and western toilets. We never required our own toilet paper. The hotels reflected the culture of the area. Our meals were of high quality and prepared by the proprietors of the small hotels in which we stayed. I plan on booking with them again in a different area of china as they are members of Easy Tour China .

Thank you for your contact. Sorry that we couldn't arrange anything today as the weather is too bad, sorry for late reply as all of our stuff are on a national course for guide. We hope you had some nice memory too without the cycling with us.

We are a family of 4 - two teenagers and two adults with cycle touring experience. We're keen on a nature and landscape focused tour away from crowds of tourists and we will be travelling on a budget so looking for local accommodation that's clean and with good food but we don't need any frills! What can you recommend? also what is a good time of year to cycle in this region? we are looking at early-mid December but not sure what the weather is like (we've cycled in Scotland in September and we don't mind rain... we might mind ice and snow!)
Look forward to your reply

Thank you for your contact. This is Robert Liu of GuilinCyclingTours replying. Yes we have something based on your budget and wishes. The normal hostel is only priced around CNY100-150 per twin room, if you want cheaper rooms, we can also arrange rooms priced under CNY100 per room. For food, usually those cheap priced hostel/guesthouse do not offer breakfast, but usually there are lot of options nearby as the whole area(especially the southern part closer to Guilin city and Yangshuo) is popular among tourists. Our routes are mainly cycling through those off-the-beaten tracks and paths hidden between villages and scenery but we still need to choose some of the touristy towns like Yangshuo as the overnight places. You can cycle here from June till December but they all different in views and weather. There are still some rains in May and June but getting very stable between July and August as it is very hot (around 35 degree centigrade), less visitors choose to cycle during the summer but personally I like it as it is no worry of rains, Sept. and Oct. are super popular among all kinds of tourists, and the room prices are higher usually, early Nov. is aslo a good choice and then the weather can change anytime with a big temperature drops. There are not too much scenery to see during Dec. but also fewer tourists and better prices. It is nearly never snow in Guilin and its southern part, but it snows every year (very few days) in the northern part of Guilin. We can even prepare you a very cheap self-guided cycling with detailed data and maps but please contact us, you can find our email on our website, thank you.

I am interested in cycling 3 days in guillin dec 23 -26
is this possible
what would the weather be like re rain mud and temperature
Written November 27, 2016
Thanks for your contact. Yes your wished tour date is available. Are you travelling alone? Please tell us more about your wishes on the cycles and your budgets by contacting our website. Or leave your email address here, thank you. We will have some chances (about 40%) seeing the rain in Dec. but it's always sunny and the blue sky shows after the rains, all depends on our luck. The temperature is around 7-15 degree centigrade.
