Our guide Lele met us at the airport in Guilin. He and the driver took us to our hotel in Guilin. We were only spending the night there because the next morning we were going to Yongshou.

We took a boat ride from Guilin to Yongshou and spent two nights there. Lele took us to the on a quick walk around the town pointing out some highlights and then to our hotel. We'd been in china for about a week at this point so we were running out of clean cloths. Lele took us to a local place around the corner from our hotel for laundry drop off. Not speaking more than a hand full of words in Mandarin, i very much appreciated his assistance.

We spent the rest of the afternoon/evening on our own. We took a walk to the park and did some sightseeing.

The second day Lele took us on a walk through a local grocery market and we had a little show and tell where he pointed out a lot of fruit and vegetables that we don't see at home. After that we took a short climb up to a lookout point in the park which gives a great overlook of the city. Later that day we did a cooking class, which was awesome and then we drove to another town to take photos with a local fisherman. It was an awesome experience.

The last day in Yongshou we went on a bike ride up the shore of the dragon river. The ride out of town was with some local traffic but before long we were on a nice bike trail with breathtaking views all around.

Our next stop was Longsheng rice terraces. It was a few hours drive from Yongshou and maybe a 1~2 mile climb up to our hotel. We were only staying for the night so we had our clothes in backpacks. Lele and the driver took care of our larger suit cases.

Scenery at the rice terraces was amazing. Lele got us an upgraded room which had a spectacular view, too. Lele had told us about the local bamboo rice and we were dying to try some, so Lele recommended a great place for dinner that evening.

The next morning my wife and I took photos of the sunrise and had breakfast before meeting Lele for a hike to the higher terraces for an amazing overlook of the area.

Later that day we took the van ride back to the airport in Guilin for our flight to Shanghai. When we arrived at the airport our flight was running 4 hours late! Some how Lele pulled of the most amazing thing, he got us switched to different flight which got us out of Guilin less than an hour after our original flight. Words cannot express how glad i was that he was able to do that. We were already only going to be spending two days in Shanghai, and had we not left guilin until 11 at night, our next day would have been ruined.

Lele was outstanding. His english was probably the best of all of the guides we had in country. He was always on the lookout for us making me feel very well taken care of.

If you come to the Guilin, I could not recommend Lele highly enough. Thanks for making our trip that much better!

Guilin is a nice city and there are some pleasant things to see and do, but nothing tops the half day cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo. In fact, of the many river cruises I've taken around the world, I'm not sure any other tops this one. Certainly the 3 Gorges Yangtze River cruise doesn't hold a candle to this sights in the Li River.

Although there was an English speaking guide, since I was the only English speaker, he largely ignored me. Which was fine. Nothing needs explaining. You simply sail for four hours through some stunning scenery. It's almost like Avatar come to life. Almost. Lunch was included, but by the time the 100 or so Chinese had kicked me out of the way, all that was left was largely cold. Oddly, they also served lunch just as we hit the most stunning part of the cruise. This is a must see in all of China. I got the cruise for 340CNY, which seemed a good deal as the CITS picks you up and drops you back at your hotel.

The problem is what happens when you reach Yangshuo. Yangshuo is probably... no, make that definitely the worst place I've seen in China. It's a ghastly tourist town full of KFC, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, McDonalds and endless, endless, dirty, tired streets of souvenir hawkers and "international" pubs. So when you reach there at 1:30pm, you have two very limited choices. The tour buses don't return to Guilin until 6:00pm. Nothing could be worse than being stuck in Yangshuo for 4.5 hours. Trust me. So the alternative is to take a tour extension, which after about an hour to explore the awful Yangshuo, takes you on to a village and another cruise, this time on a bamboo raft. Only the village is fake and a complete tourist trap. The extension cost me 150CNY. But anything was preferable than sitting in one of Yangshuo German themed pubs. The extension was marginally better. You then come straight back to Guilin when the tour ends, arriving back around 6:30-7:00pm.

Despite the rather lame afternoon, the morning cruise is just stunning. Well worth it. A China must see.

Our 5-day tour of Guillin and Yangshuo was truly memorable. There were 4 of us and William (Wei), our guide, offered us a well-planned trip that covered all the significant sights in both cities and the countryside. We were 3 senior citizens and a 22-year-old and all 4 of us enjoyed the trip. William was attentive and very thoughtful, even buying us delicious fresh tropical fruit to try. Our driver was cautious and helpful as well. I also must recommend Vanessa Zheng, senior travel advisor at China Travel Tours, who made our arrangements. She was attentive, thorough, and very quick to answer any questions we had. I have traveled to China several times but this was my first time in the Guilin region. It is a part of China that should be visited for the natural beauty of the Li River and stunning karst mountains. We were fortunate to have clear weather for our cruise and, in fact, our whole stay in the region.

Astonishing. Very well organized by China Travel. We asked for a less crowded route and we went ealrly to the terraces without stopping to see the long hair women in their town. Was great. The guide Frank was the best one we have had. He knows about the region and he is a very nice man.

Thank you so much Vivi Chen for arranging an awesome tour of Guilin and Yangshuo for us. These 4 days were the absolute highlight of our entire 3 week South East Asia travels. From our initial enquiry we never felt pressured to purchase the tour and your replies to our emails were prompt, friendly and answered all our questions. Thank you to our wonderful tour guide Lili who was so hospitable and made us feel so welcome. Her local knowledge was incredible and we had an amazing time seeing Guilin, the Li River Cruise, Yangshuo and bike riding through the countryside with her. Also thanks to Mr Lu our driver, we felt safe and comfortable with your driving. We highly recommend this tour and China Travel to anyone considering travelling in China. We look forward to using China Travel again in the future. Tanya and Lance Wilson

We have organized a two days tour of Guilin and Yangshuo with Chinatravel. Our shedule was tight and we wanted to see as many things as possible. Vanessa from the agency has been extremely helpful in organizing the provate tour. Henry, our English speaking guide, has been also very nice and Always available for help.
The hotels booked by the agency were up to international standards (Waterfall in Guilin and Days Inn in Yangshuo) with huge rooms and in Yangshuo with a nice river view. For those that are a bit in a hurry and want to organize an hasslefree tour, we recommend Chinatravel.

Mike met us at the airport and he and Mr Chen the driver were amazing companions on this journey. Mike was so enthusiastic about this part of China and we enjoyed all his recommendations for the local foods and sights and shows. He has a very deep knowlege of China and an excellent command of the english language. Ask for him to be your guide when u visit this spectacular part of China.

Traveling from Urumqi eastwards, Vanessa of China Travel organized a private trip for two with individual guides at each stop- Turpan-Dunhuang- Tianshui-Xian and then the train to Lhasa. They did a masterful job in selecting the guides according to our predetermined interests and specifications. All guides and drivers were so knowledgeable of the local history, accommodating and sensitive to our needs. They were at the individual station regardless of time of day or night to pick us up and facilitate hotel registration. In particularly we were very impressed how well they were selected to serve our specific enquiries regarding caves, museums and places of interest in each location. What is even more important these guides were enthusiastic local people which was so important when visiting autonomous regions of China. That was really the point of the trip which turned out to be beyond our expectations. Clearly the monumental sights, natural wonders and historical places were our main focus and the way these were presented by Vanessa's chosen staff members enriched our experience tremendously.
