Our customised trip - Beijing, Xi'An and Guilin/Yangshuo- was excellent value for money. It was very easy to arrange this through Riley at China Discovery. We usually don't do conducted tours, but glad we did because the language issues can be a bit tricky. Our enthusiastic guides Lisa in Xi'An and especially Nellie in Guilin took complete care of us from the point of arrival to seeing us off at the airport. The first guide we had in Beijing was the opposite, but the company took our feedback on board and ensured we had great guides after that. The highlights were the fabulous lunches we had. Beautiful cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo. On our request, they also arranged a wonderful trip to see locals using cormorants to fish (saw this on the National Geographic) - you pass through beautiful countryside and end up in a lovely little village. If you're pressed for time in Yangshuo, suggest this instead of the Ten Mile gallery and Moon Hill etc tour (need to find out more about possible animal cruelty though). Stay in Yangshuo town if possible - great vibe at night with lights and music and the amazing hills all around. So thank you China Discovery for a very well-organised trip. One thing though - wish we had cleaner hotels in Yangshuo and Guangzhou!
