Had One Of Our Best Meals Here
Oct 2019
Staying nearby at the Universal Hotel, we were able to come here twice for dinner, one of which was an easy Burger King fast food meal (it was good to get out of the cold rain that night) and the other was one of the best meals we had during our two week, 6 city tour in China. The outdoor but under-cover restaurants were on a lesser known side street that had a handful of lower-priced, more traditional food restaurants (I did not get the name of it, but it is across from the restaurant, Hot Pot U where food is served on a conveyor belt that goes around and around, for your choosing delight) At OUR restaurant, we enjoyed steaming woks of bone-in duck with red chilies and scallions, chicken pieces with mushrooms, scallions, red chilies and bamboo slices, and bowls of rice, all washed down with cold beers and eaten with the interesting, pre-wrapped, factory-sanitized packets of cutlery, small plates, and chopsticks alongside locals, Chinese tourists (we were the only foreigners) and huge water-filled containers of swimming fish (which are sold and cooked by their weight). Back out on Zhengyang Lu, we, alongside groups of people, both young and old, were entertained by samples of peanut snacks, costumed store staff duos dancing while mixing sugary candies in a large vat, larger and smaller stores, restaurants and bars, as well as the tented market stalls situated in the "spine" of the main street, where very affordable handicrafts, clothing and souvenirs are bargained over. At the very end of this same street is the lake and well-known Sun and Moon Pagodas which, sadly, we never made it to as it was raining and cold both nights.

Great Place for Local Fashion and Handphone Covers
Dec 2019
Guilin Zhengyang shopping district is a popular local shopping area with a recognisable clock tower. Most of the shops are local shops and eateries. The few international shops are McDonalds, KFC and a H&M opposite the street. Nevertheless, this is a great local shopping not to be missed due to 2 reasons. First, there are many shops selling many varieties of handphone covers at very cheap prices of around 30 RMB. Good place to shop for trendy designs. It is also a great place to buy local fashion items like Feiyue shoes or Miniso or clothes. Designs are trendy and prices are affordable mid range (because there are also no high end international boutiques). If you like souvenirs, there are also shops like sell interesting USB gifts and stuffed toys.

If you are not a shopping person, you can still visit the place for its ambiance. There are nice local eateries like hotpots and cafes. There is even night bars located at one corner near Sheraton Guilin and nice halal eateries by Uighurs. If you like adventure, there is an indoor stadium hidden among the buildings. They hold basketball local matches at night. You can feel local ambiance there. There is also a small outdoor performing area locals will gather and offer nostalgic kids electric tram vehicles for rent. Overall, it is a great place to chill for a few hours and a must visit in Guilin to experience local culture.

Good for a nice evening stroll
Jun 2019 • Couples
The place is located in the heart of the city, very close to the Sun and Moon Pagodas, as well as the Zhonshang Road - one of the main streets. It consists of a large number of small shops and stalls selling souvenirs and all kinds of things and, of course, food stalls and restaurants. At night time the lights come on and the place comes alive, with plenty of locals and tourists out for a drink, some food or just for a nice stroll. It's safe, it's fun and very much worth a try...

Fun place to explore

A pleasant place to explore, shop and eat. Plenty of souvenirs and vendors selling the local delicacies. We found some nice hand painted scrolls here.

Nothing special
Sep 2018 • Couples
This particular pedestrian street is okay, if you enjoy browsing cheap eats and local delicacies, otherwise it is just another shopping retail stores that caters to tourist.

Nice, busy street and night market (and something more)
Apr 2018 • Couples
If you are visiting the 2 pagodas by night you'll probably take a walk in this very busy, charming street. As in all the streets in the world of its kind you'll find lots and lots of shopping opportunities (food, clothes, big brands ... you name it) and dining opportunities as well.
When I said in my title "and something more" I was referring to the end of the street where numerous food stalls ask to be visited. We couldn't resist variety of food and masses of locals that were struggling to find a sitting place. After inspecting all that was offered we decided to stay on the safe side: we had an excellent smoothie, postponed our dinner till return to hotel and just took some photos of food ! Maybe next time ... fried grasshoppers and similar stuff were too much for us (conservative westerners)!

Busier at night
May 2018 • Friends
Pedestrian street in Guilin is just across the road from the Pagoda Park. It’s a popular place for locals and tourists especially during the night market.

You can find souvenir shops, snacks, tea huts around. Nice for a quick stroll, the street isn’t very long so take your time to have a wonder. You can pick up some good bargains just remember to negotiate when shops don’t display a price tag.

Great place to walk thru on way to old city
Aug 2017 • Friends
My Chinese in-laws apparently cannot read a map so we ended up walking through this pedestrian area on our way to the old city. My favorite part was the large fountain with huge Koi. Also lots of street food and places to get mango drinks.

Guilin's Downtown Pedestrian Street
Aug 2017 • Couples
This pedestrian street(s) is just a stone throw's away from the 2 pagodas and consequently is worth a visit when you are in the vicinity of this Guilin's scenic spot. We went during the evening so I would say this is the best time of the day to go. The restaurants provide good food at reasonable prices. We tried the Beer Fish and it was great! The price of the fish goes by the weight and it's best you ask the price before you eat. Ours cost rmb217 for the fish and our total bill was rmb255 for 2 persons. They charged for the cutlery as well and their reasoning was it's factory disinfected as it was completely sealed. (no, you can't take the cutlery home). After that, we did some shopping too. Bargaining is a must.
