After 5 years of living and travelling in China I finally feel I am seeing real China. As a photographer, I constantly encounter a well rehearsed thin polished veneer of tourist China. After searching far and wide to find someone I could work with on my photography needs, I encountered Alex Guan at CET. Down to earth and experienced, Alex knew immediately what I needed and designed a detailed solo photo tour for me. Clear and detailed with cost transparency, it was a no brainer. I toured Guilin, Yangshuo and surrounds for 6 days and 5 night.
Usually I like freedom to explore and discover, but it was a nice change and I noticed I took a great deal more photos because the unique opportunities that were put in front of me. Not just the usual posed locations with a million others, we were up before the sun and in-front of absolute splendour. We walked and met locals, discussed real life and invited to see and do things not on any tourist trap tours list. In short it was a dream come true.
Highlights were talking with the oldest cormorant fisherman at his home about how things had changed and taking portraits, sunrise over the Li river, Ping'an rice terrace hikes, off the beaten track discovering ancient stone ruins not yet ruined with bus carparks. Accomodation and food was excellent, driving between location and service overall was the best Ive experienced. Price was acceptable but the value I received was again better than anywhere in China before. I was in the right places at the right times for photography, I did not need for anything, I got more than I expected and I am booking my Yunnan trip later this week with them. In one word, "authentic" finally.

My wife and I brought eight college students to China for two weeks in January. I was a little hesitant to use a Chinese tour company, but Alex Guan provided a better itinerary at a better price than anyone else. He also answered all email queries immediately. The tour went off without a hitch. Alex accompanied us to ensure everything went smoothly, and he had arranged excellent guides and drivers in every city (Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin, Yangshuo, Hangzhou, and Shanghai). The hotels exceeded our expectations, and the meals he had arranged were superb. On top of all that, Alex is a great guy who we all really enjoyed getting to know. I have no hesitation in whole-heartedly recommending China Expedition Tours and Alex Guan!

Used China Expedition tour as extension of another tour. Everything went exactly as stated, flights were best price, guide and driver met us at Gulin Airport, sateyed at Bravo Hotel. The hotel is getting a little age on it now, I doubt the 4 star rating is current. The tour was great, beautiful river cruise taking most of the day. Second day was tour of Fubo hill which is a great view if you don't mind climbing a lot of stairs to get to the top. Reed Flute Cave is highly recommended, the added colored lights really set off the natural features. While in Guilin, save several hours to walk around the lake on your own, probably one of the highlights of the trip.

China Expedition Tours altered the standard Li River cruise private tour to also include Daxu ancient town and this made the perfect day. Our guide Winnie was great and very informative and knew exactly how much to say and when to leave us alone to enjoy the beautiful scenery. There were no negatives but we find the expectation (not compulsory) as written on the itinerary of a tip of around 10% unsatisfactory and creates unease at the end of the trip. This is not a criticism of China Expedition Tours but of the way the industry is heading in China. Tipping is a strange American custom which is best kept in USA and should not extend into the rest of the world as it is not necessary and vague. We do not need Americanisms in the rest of the world. I recommend China Expedition Tours as a great company to use for your Guilin Li River trip.

We just returned from 19 days in China, on a private trip organized by China Expedition Tours. Monica Mo put together a wonderful personalized trip for my family of 4 (including 2 children under the age of 13). The guides were phenomenal, and we really visited some places that were off the beaten path. In Guilin, Lizzie was fantastic and we got to meet Alex Guan too. We had an amazing homestay as well. The food was absolutely fantastic wherever we went. In fact, the guides consistently ordered us too much food, because they wanted us to try everything! I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a personalized adventure.

Alex Guan did an awesome job of putting together a fun itinerary for me and my friends, and at a great price at that. While I was there I felt like I had an authentic Chinese experience, which was a blast! My favorite city was Guilin, which is Alex's hometown. It was simply breathtaking! I would definitely use Alex again, and would recommend him to anyone else thinking about doing a tour of China!

I traveled to China with a college group in January as part of a Winter Term course at my school. I would not know where to begin planning a trip to a country as diverse as China, but our itinerary put together by Alex Guan was superb! We went to six major cities and we had a genuine cultural experience. We got to see everything from the Great Wall in Beijing to the Li River in Guilin and everything in between!
A particular highlight of the trip was that China Expedition Tours took our group to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall - this section of the Great Wall is very well preserved and is much less crowded with tourists. Most other tour groups would have taken us to another section of the Wall which would have been more crowded. The little things like this detail of our trip made our experience with China Expedition Tours exceptionally good.
Alex stayed with our group throughout our trip as a national guide. Everywhere we went we got an exciting history of attractions we visited and we had local guides with impeccable knowledge of their cities. Alex and our local guides did an amazing job of keeping our group on schedule so we got the most out of our trip and made every location a unique experience. Everyone at China Expedition Tours cared deeply about our enjoyment of the trip and went above and beyond what we would have expected from any tour group.
More than just giving us an incredible trip, we made lasting friendships with the people at China Expedition Tours that I know I will be back to visit in the future. I would not trust anyone else in China with planning a future trip!

Chanel was the travel agent I was coordinating with for months, she was very patient in helping me devise an itinerary that would work well for my senior citizen parents and my 8 year old son. She assisted me in choosing places to visit and pacing of time to maximize our trip. She also helped me choose a hotel in China and book a transfer from the hotel.
Our tour guide for the Shaolin temple was LIS and she was very sweet and accommodating. Our tour guide For the Great Wall was STEVE. Steve was incredible with English and so knowledgeable on the history and culture of China. Both our tour guides were patient and kept us on track of schedule.

Yesterday we made a trip trough Guilin with out guide Lizzie. It was really breathtaking and very well organised.
The main events were visiting the Elephant Trunk Hill, Red Flute Cave, going up the Yao mountain and visiting a Tea plantation. Everything that you can see in one day in Guilin was in it. Even though we are two friends (age 24) and had limited budget, this was the best trip we could have ever imagened.
I would totally recommend this trip to everybody who wants to see Guilin in one day. Benefits of this trip:
- A local guide with very much knowledge of Guilin.. and loads of energy. Oh and not to forget, speaks English better then we did.
- Really comfortable taxi, it felt like we were presidents of Guilin county.
- You can make the trip as long as you want, no hurry, just enjoy the views.
- We really learned a lot about Guilin that day.

We had several days with Lizzie travelling up to Longsheng & Yangshuo as well as touring Guilin.
We were so well looked after by our driver & Lizzie. Our tour company was China Expedition Tours who arranged all our trip throughout China with such professionalism & efficiency that all we had to do was enjoy each day. One of the highlights of the trip was the Yangshuo light show Sanjie Liu - truly breathtaking. A trip up to Longsheng & a night at Ping An was another great experience. Would recommend China Expedition Tours (especially our tour advisor Monica Mo) without any hesitation.
