Get Away! Have a Picnic!

Chuanshan Park (穿山公园 Chuānshān gōngyuán) is a beautiful little park on the south side of Guilin. There are a few mountains to climb, great riverside scenery to enjoy, and two caves to explore: the tunnel cave that sits half-way up the south mountain (it cuts straight through the whole mountain!) and a second tour-guided lightshow cave (haven't tried that one yet). A smaller branch of the Lijiang River flows through the park, and a couple of stone arched bridges span the river. A small island sits in between the two bridges and is a good place for picnics. Across the river are a bunch of restaurants built in traditional Chinese wooden style. Also across the river is a karst mountain (塔山 Tǎshān) with a brick tower on top. The tower has its roots in the Ming Dynasty, but the current tower was rebuilt in the 1950s. We love the view from this peak; you can see all of Chuanshan park, and look north to Elephant Trunk Hill and other karst mountains in Guilin. To the west you can see Nanxi Shan and more beautiful mountains as well. There are a few reasons to go to Chuanshan: First, it is less expensive than most parks. If you go the right way, you may even get in free. Second, it's lest touristy and less crowded. To me, this is the key reason to go. It's a great place to get away, explore, and relax. Third, it offers AMAZING Guilin scenery. Some of the most beautiful karst mountains in Guilin are the least publicized. Chuanshan is truly a beautiful park!

Beautiful Karst Mountains Park
Feb 2017 • Friends
We travelled in a group of 5 adults and visited here
on February 2017.
Chuanshan Park is located in the southeast of Guilin city.
It is regarded as one of the beautiful city park in Guilin,
covering an area of 2 square kilometers.
This park is famous for it's Cockfighting Hills
(formed by Chuanshan Hill and Pheasant Hill) and two caves
(Chuanshan Hill Cave and Moon Cave).
Less crowded and less expensive - only RMB80 per entry.
It's a great place to get away, explore and relax.

It is an ideal weekend place for locals,
Mar 2012
go for the big cave half way up. This park has lot less tourists so it gives you a better feel of the destination of Guilin. Plus its cousin, the Pagoda Hill is next door, making an interesting picture.
