The scenic mountain landscapes of Guangxi
Sep 2020
Very scenic drive through the Guangxi Maoer Mountain Reserve. Beautiful mountain formations spread over an area of 17,000 hectares, and mostly subtropical evergreen forests.

Wonderful scenery - but foreigners beware!

I went to Mao-er Shan with my Chinese wife and two Chinese friends. It's a fantastic place. The views are spectacular and there are well built wooden walkways through glorious forests near the summit which are quite breath-taking. BUT as a foreigner I had to pay RMB300 more than the other members of the party, and then we all had to get off the bus half -way up and wait for about an hour as phone calls were made as to whether or not a foreigner was allowed. If you're not fluent in Chinese or with Chinese friends, don't bother going!

It's a beautiful place to see the sunrise... if the sun come out the morning you climb up a mountain to see it... sadly the morning i visited it was really really foggy, but i could still see the tops of the mountains...well a few of them... I can only imagine it's beauty in sunlight :)

Perfect place for photographer and family weekend activity
Jul 2014 • Friends
Before 2011(or 2012 I forgot it...), we can challange the 30KM up by bike on this mountain, it is one of the coolest things for cyclists, also one of the hardest. It is a pity that it is now not allowed for private cars or bikes. It takes abuot 1.2 hours by car up and about 5-6hours by bike... the road is narrow and only available for 1.5 car's lenth, so if two cars are facing each other, they should drive back and try to get aside little to let the other pass. If you are lucky enough to visit it in perfect weather, don't forget the sunrise and sunset views, many photographers visited it tons of times just waiting a chance for it! Mao'er mountain is far away from Guilin city so 2 days visit of it is highly recommended.

The Top Mountain in South China
Mar 2013 • Friends
Being a national reserve, Maoer Mountain is famous for the scenery and the natural resource. Here, you can also find the headstream of Li River. If you decide to go to Maoer Mountain, you should take some thick clothes, for the temperature difference is huge from the Mountain bottom to the top and it is humid in the mountain. There is a hotel on the mountain but the price is little higher, if you do not want to live at the hotel, you can take tent for staying overnight.
