We went late around 9pm and was the only people in the tower and that part of the park. The attendant was happy for us to look around and keep the place open for us without fuss. The surrounding park is beautiful and worth a walk during the day

After dinner we went to the park and admired the illuminated pagodas under the full moon. There was a lot going on in the park, but we still found a quiet spot to end the evening with a view.

Afterwards we wanted to see Elephant Mountain on the way to the hotel. Unfortunately there are opening times and you have to buy an entrance ticket. We couldn't catch a glimpse of the mountain.

I flew into Guilin from Kuala Lumpur. From Guilin airport, I took the shuttle bus to Yangshuo. After 3 days in Yangshuo, I left for Nanning to visit the transnational Detian Waterfall. I was in Nanning for 2 days before I took the bullet train back to Guilin.

On alighting from the bullet train at Guilin city, I was surprised to see Guilin seem to be a metropolis dotted with modern hotel buildings, train station, restaurants, shopping malls and alleys. I was expecting to see karst mountain scenery looming the skyline of the city center just like Yangshuo but it seem the beautiful landscape were well concealed behind admission entrances and you have to buy tickets to enjoy the gorgeous views of the Elephant Hill, the Solitary Peak, the Diecai Hills, etc.

The most impressive view and was my first attraction visit was this Riyue Shuangta Cultural Park. We stayed at Hanting Express Hotel near the train station. We took a short 30 mins walk from our hotel and we came right into the Cultural Park.

The pagodas were well-illuminated, colorful, vibrant and gleaming in the reflection of the lake. The trees and leaves glow in different wonderful colors with much dynamism under the colorful lighting. I enjoyed the stroll round the park even though it was quite crowded. The Zhenyang Pedestrian Street is also a short walk away from the Cultural Park. There are many eateries nearby and had our dinner at a restaurant not far from the cultural park.

If you intend to stay in Guilin for a longer period, I would suggest that you find a hotel around this cultural park so that you can take your leisure walk every night enjoying the beautiful lakes and gorgeous scenery. The summer weather is terribly hot and humid. I found the scenery quite plain in the day time but the night stroll was wonderful. It would be ideal if you visit Guilin not in the hot summer but in the favorable months of spring or autumn as the weather would be more cooling.

Two memorable things in Guilin: the morning hike up Diecai Mountain and the peaceful and lovely night stroll around the illuminating beautiful lakes of the Sun Moon Pagoda.

It was one of the must see places when we went to Guilin. We did not have time to climb up the pagodas and could only view the pagodas from across the lake.
It was indeed a beautiful view with the pagodas lighted up.
The walk around the lake was quite pleasant.
Unfortunately, we went in mid-August which was really hot and happened to be the 1-week China school holidays. So do your research on the holidays in China because it really gets crowded

We had a wonderful time walking around the Sun and Moon Pagoda in the park, from where these magnificent structures are visible. Highly recommended to walk along the lake as the views are really beautiful

Most of the reviews here are either for the boat ride around the lake or Fir Lake Park. Actual entrance to the towers costs 45 RMB. The only English explanation is on the board outside the towers. There is a lot of history and folklore tradition behind the two towers which English speakers miss out on, so essentially you'd just be paying for the view from the top of the pagodas and the chance to walk in the underground tunnel. To hear the explanation Chinese speakers need to either request a guide or tag along with a tour group. It's quite interesting if you're into Feng shui and zodiac etc, the written signage is rather difficult to understand.
The story goes something like when they were redeveloping the site in the 90s, they found the Secret Buddhist Zodiac Scrolls from the Tang dynasty hidden in an underground cavity. This is something unique to China and Guilin and isn't found in mainstream Buddhism. The reliefs of the twelve Guardian Buddhas and Sprirts are found in the Basement of the Moon Pagoda, which has 7 levels. Tourists seldom climb this pagoda, so it's quite peaceful and there's a good ambience from the top. The copper tower is the Sun Pagoda, which you walk in the underwater tunnel to get to from the moon tower. It is made completely out of copper and is the tallest copper struture in the world. you can take the elevator to level 7. Level 8&9 are for worship and prayer and you are allowed up there only if you are willing to pay your respects. Level 9 houses the Buddha's relic.

Came here during a morning walk... Walked around the lake without actually paying to visit the pagodas... Nice place for pictures.

This is a really lovely park to visit, especially at night. The sun and moon pagodas are beautifully lit, as are the paths around the lake, reminiscent of an Alice in Wonderland feeling. There are plenty of good vantage points around for views and photos. There are also boats that can take you around the lakes for a fee, but we found a walk to be adequate enough (though if you want to casually walk around the two lakes completely do reserve some time!). Sone small shops, restaurants and bars can be found around the area as well.
