I came to this mosque and Guangta Road from Canada in search of my roots. My mother was born in this neighbourhood in the 1920's. She was forced to flee to Hong Kong by the advancing Japanese invading forces. This mosque and Guangta Road were the centre of life for my mother and her family and the rest of the Chinese Muslim community in Guangzhou. This was my first visit to this area and I was accompanied by my cousin from Hong Kong. For me, it was an emotional visit as I walked the neghbourhood where my mother walked. I was very impressed by the mosque, it's glorious Chinese architecture, it's serene surroundings and peaceful vistas which allows one to contemplate God and our connection with other human beings. If I get the chance again, I would like to come back and also visit my mother's ancestral place of Zhao Qing.…
