    Nice and nostalgic!
Located at Zhongshan road and just a 1-min walk from Chen Jia Ci metro station, the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall (Chen Clan Academy) is a temple built by the 72 clans of family/surname of "Chen" for their juniors' accommodation and preparation for the imperial examinations during the Qing dynasty. Later it was changed to be the Chen Clan's Industry College, and then middle schools. Currently it houses the Guangdong Folk Art Museum. The buildings were nice in particular the roofs with lots of colourful decors and displays, and it stood the test of time, presenting the history, arts and culture of the then China before the country became a republic. It's a nice place to learn about the early history and especially those with Chen family name as somehow you can feel the association with the forefathers.

A treasure of Cantonese history & art
The roof tile designs and figures are fantastic art, and some are in vibrant colours. Many pieces of the works of art are ceramic, and others are carved wood. I have toured the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall many times. Every year, there is always something new to see.

Get here directly don’t waste your money on a tour, well worth it
Beautiful place, beautiful buildings heaps of photo opportunities Definitely come here and you’ll spend about 1 hour strolling around and you’ll definitely enjoy it. If you’re an Anglo, I probably wouldn’t spend money as part of a tour to come here, but I’d come on my own can costs $3, It costs about $2.50 Australian to get in… Don’t forget your passport! As a Guajillo you do not need to register through WeChat or whatever else the crowd is doing. Just keep walking up to the booking office or inquiry office they will sell you tickets.

    Interesting museum, advanced booking needed.
A great museum to understand south china culture in the last few hundred years. Other than the building and its restored decoration, there are also display of other folk arts. Booking in advance online but apparently both booking and exhibits explanation are Chinese only.

    Beautiful building, interesting displays
I was with a tour, so other reviews are more helpful on how to visit this on your own. It's definitely worth seeing this place, for the beautiful carving on the roofs and walls. However, the displays inside were also very worthwhile. They discussed the various kinds of techniques that were developed in the area for woodcarving and stonecarving, with spectacular examples of both. In addition, there are some displays of typically-furnished rooms as they might have looked 100 or 200 years ago - for example, a women's chamber. There was a surprising amount of English signage to describe the various exhibits. I learned a lot, in addition to seeing some outstanding craftsmanship on display.

Great intro into Guangdong Folk Art. Traditional Chinese architecture and decoration, beautiful ornaments and ceramics on display and the building / temple as such is a sight itself. We started our day here and there's lots of other places nearby to check out, all easy to reach by taxi and some even on foot.

It was originally a space to prepare students for the Confucian imperial exams, built by two overseas Chinese in America who returned to Guangzhou. The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall (also known as the Chen Clan Academy, for those whose last name is Chen), which now houses the Guangdong Folk Art Museum, is a great stop on your tour of Guangzhou with its history and architecture. The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall was founded by two Chinese Americans who wanted the Chen family students to have an academy in Guangzhou as they prepared for their Confucian imperial exams. It was built shortly before the end of the Qing era between 1890 and 1894, when two founders named Chen, Chen Ruinan and Chen Zhaonan enlisted support from all over Guangdong.

Spent about 4-5 hours here with the family. Very peaceful spot showcasing some of the historic artisans works from the Chen Clan. Beautiful architecture and works of art throughout. Well worth the admission which was quite reasonable.

Unforgetable experience! Marvernous local architecture art. The decorations are beautiful. Definitely worth visiting! Travelling in Guangzhou is not so difficult except for some language problems until recently the GZ government has had an interpretation hotline(+8620960169), which can provide great service for public affairs and government services. I used several times taking taxi and asking for directions, the interpreters are quite professional.
