Great venue for sports events
Nov 2019
Nice to watch the teams come out, synchronized to the music/playing bands. This is a large and very nice venue.

Beautiful band performers dressed in traditional costumes & playing Chinese musical instruments
Feb 2019 • Friends
During the days leading up to the February 5, 2019, Lunar New Year, the grounds of the sports centre were used for public events, such as the bands and performers playing during one of my visits, the sale of flowers, orange trees, handicrafts, and various foods, etc.. I especially enjoyed the Chinese drum music and those played on Chinese musical instruments such as the guzheng, erhu, and others. The property was also decorated for the Spring Festival and its events. During my two visits, there were thousands of people enjoying Spring Festival events and get-togethers with friends and family.

The sports centre is primarily comprised of the Tianhe Stadium, gymnasium, baseball field, exercise centre, bowling alley, gateball court, tennis school, natatorium, football field, large open area, and parking areas.

Watch a Football game but keep the expectations low
Feb 2018
I went to a Guangzhou Evergrande Football game in this stadium. To get a ticket I’m pretty sure I got ripped off outside the stadium. I payed 180 for I think the cheapest tickets possible.
The game itself was played on a shockingly low level. It was like I was watching preseason amateur football. But the fans got excited everytime the ball came near the box. Evergrande won the game. But for football, I wouldn’t search too much in China.

Good running spot
Jul 2018 • Solo
There's a 1k running loop around the north stadium in the Tianhe Sports Park that locals use. It's well away from traffic and is supervised by sports park security.

Stadium with track
Jul 2015 • Friends
The stadium is within a sports complex and draws joggers who run around it on the outside (clockwise of course) and loads of tai chi participants in the morning.
There are many ping pong tables around for all to use and many sports shops, as well as restaurants.
Reachable by public transport, including subway.
The main local team, Evergrande, uses the stadium for its matches. View from seats is OK. Unfortunately with a running track, one is always at a distance, in particular in the curves. Main or opposite tribune are best for that reason. Services and comfort on match night are basic, but drinks and food are available to the thirsty on a hot Guangzhou night. Evergrande schedule is easily available on www.gzevergrandefc.com

Ugly/old stadium
Jun 2015 • Friends
Saw a match of Evergrande which was fun ...

But the stadium itself is ugly, old and offers very few options for drinks and food...

Rollerblading in the evening
Just outside the complex, there's a rental place for rollerblading. They gave us a pair of plastic bags, which we thought were to keep our shoes. Turns out they were meant to cover our socks before putting on the rollerblades. Renting for 10RMB for unlimited time betw 6-10pm was a great deal. Having Guangzhou Tower as the backdrop at one end and the Stadium at the other, created a fun breezy nice evening out. Recommended for those sporty ones who is looking for something different to enjoy the night.
