This was a really fun weekend participating in Cultural Painting activities (you need no artistic talents) and cooking local food as well as cycling around the area visiting the buildings unique to the area and learning about the history. We indulged in really good local food and plenty of it and had a lot of laughs playing board games in the evening. For a bit of balance we had a Tai Chi class and a workout first thing in the morning before breakfast We saw a fascinating Lion Dance and other performances put on for the villagers and local children We were able to participate as well. This was a well organised trip and lots of fun with a great group and Shane is always a delight . This is the 2nd tour I have done with Shane and I would highly recommend his tours. Thanks Shane

The best tour I had in China - a good balance of cultural appreciation and upbeat fitness activities. Bowtie History took us to a fulfilling 2-day journey. It told a story, guided us to experience the story with diverse activities that were never boring. The bike trip, plant pressing arts, snack making, bon fire bonding, tai chi, lion dance, mask making, and K2Fit team brought us wonderful fitness challenges that uplifted the vibes further and added a unique flavour to the tour, simply a perfect complement to a cultural get-away. Shane, the organiser of the tour is very nice and thoughtful. His genuine passion with history, culture and humanity needs no further elaboration. Food was authentic and amazing. The accommodation was cosy. It’s definitely a wonderful local tour to recommend to anyone solo or with friends who are looking for small group, cosy, enriching and unique experience.

I can't say enough good things about Bowtie History. This was my second trip to China but my first time visiting Guangzhou. I was interested in getting an in-depth look at the history and culture of Canton, so I took the Foreign Devils in Canton walking tour. Shane was an incredible guide and as a local historian, he certainly knew his stuff. I was particularly interested in the Old China Trade and the Americans who used to live here, so Shane spent extra time sharing with me his knowledge and anecdotes about their presence at the Thirteen Factories. As a retired history teacher of 31 years, I can attest to his expertise and engaging storytelling. The tour was nicely paced and it was a small group of us so you felt more catered to than going with a large group tour. If you come visit Guangzhou, don't miss out on this great tour!

What a great tour to take! Shane was an excellent guide who helped my team and I get to know Guangzhou better. We were here on a medical conference and I had heard there were interesting connections between America and China regarding medicine. One of the sites Shane took us to see was an old hospital, still functioning, that was the first foreign hospital in Southern China! We didn't realize the long history of doctors and medical professionals who resided here and made an incredible impact on the city. The tour was well-run and Shane personally picked us up from our hotel and provided us lunch. Some of my staff had to rest at times, so our guide made sure we had plenty of rest stops on the way, where he continued his stories. My personal favorite was the museum we visited and learned about the China trade with America. He answered all of our questions about art pieces there and then some. I would definitely recommend this, and any other tours Bowtie History offers.
