A very enjoyable visit today. We went with a guide to explain the intricacies of the Russian Orthodox faith & the icons et cetera in the church. Definitely one of the few worthwhile things to do while here in Omsk in the winter.

The main Cathedral in Omsk has been painstakingly rebuilt to the exact original specifications (before it was previously demolished). The building is magnificent, set right in the centre of the city, with beautiful architecture inside and out...a must-see in Omsk!

We saw the cathedral first from the airplane when coming into Omsk, with it's golden onion dome reflecting a sunny day. Inside it seems there is always a service going on so you can see a little of that Orthodox experience; properly dressed and behaved tourists are welcome (but no photography inside). The grounds could be better kept but this... More

Beautiful church in the centre of Omsk, in the middle of a park. Usual gift shop with religious items.

This is a beautiful cathedral in the heart of Omsk. I didn't go inside but walked around the outside on a couple of occasions. I think if you have come from Moscow you may be a little underwhelmed as Moscow has bigger and grander cathedrals however it is a nice little stop to break up the trans Siberian Railway journey.

Assumption Cathedral (Uspenskij sobor) is definitely the centrepiece of the middle of Omsk. It stands in a beautiful spot and really defines Omsk and its people. Beautifully maintained with its shimmering dome it is surely one of the most beautiful Cathedrals this side of Moscow and a first stop for many Tourists. It also creates the ambience for one's stay... More

We spent less than a day in Omsk and this church was the only spot we visited, but it was worth it. The beautiful mix of colors made it one of our favorite churches in Russia. We didn't go inside though.

Whatever reasoning might be behind these magnificent edifices in Russia, they are a major attraction and a fantastic delight for the eyes of the traveler. Even the small villages have great looking cathedrals. Omsk Cathedral is a wonder on its own...
