Great panning experience
Aug 2018 • Family
While in town visiting family we visited twice. Jim and his staff were extremely friendly. Panning for gems was amazing as we found many interesting (and different) rocks. Will definitely go back next time we're in town!

Small rock shop with friendly service
Jul 2018 • Family
Stopped for a look and enjoyed the friendly service. Small rock shop with some fossils and jewelery. Also have an outside station if you want to try your hand at gold panning.

Don't miss this experience!
May 2018 • Family
We enjoyed our visit because of the friendly staff and especially Jim himself. I think we would have stayed all day learning about the gems we panned for but we had a flight to catch. This is a don't miss it for your list if you are near. It's worth it!

The kids had a blast looking for gems and rocks. They were so excited to find a sparkly treasure as they looked through their buckets. Such a nice little business and super friendly!

My 9 year old and I went here while staying in Pinehurst. The owners were so friendly and knowledgeable. They really went the extra mile to make sure my son had fun and learned interesting things about the gems. I would highly recommend!

Family fun

I was visiting with 5 grandchildren and my adult children. We love gems and shiny rocks. The gem "panning" is so worth it!! Much better than the tourist traps. Beautiful jewelry, polished stones, very nice owner.

Jim's "rocks"!
Jul 2016 • Friends
Over the last year, my sister has become something of a rockhound. A co-worker told her about Jim's, so we decided to go check it out. Upon entering, a kindly gentleman behind the counter got up to greet us. He started us off with a magic trick using one of the specimens for sale, and then gave each of us a beautiful, polished stone to keep. We headed outside and purchased our buckets--a small bucket is $15.00 with a larger bucket being $25 and still larger buckets going up to about $100. Between the three of us, we purchased a small and a medium, and each bucket came full of semi-precious stones, the majority of which were good sized stones. We found pieces of a geode, deeply colored amethysts, and all sorts of interesting rocks we hadn't collected on any of our other sluicing excursions. The kindly lady helping us told us that this shipment of ore had come from Madagascar, so for those who like non-native rocks and minerals, this could be just the place for you. If you're a North Carolina purist, come anyway--you can always give you non-native minerals to someone else. :) Overall, the staff was very friendly, and very helpful. They'll tell you all about your finds, and if you're into the healing power of stones, there's a lady who's very knowledgeable about that, too. She indicated that there is a cabochon machine on-site, though I didn't inquire about costs and turn-around times for jewelry making. So what if rocks aren't your thing? Not to worry--Jim's offers gold panning, too!

Jim's is a clean and tidy location with two small troughs, though only one was running when we arrived. I'd recommend wearing comfortable clothes, possibly bringing rubber gloves to keep your hands clean and dry, and maybe a towel in case you splash yourself or if you'd just like to keep your bottom dust-free while seated at the trough. The troughs are covered to provide you some shade, and a sign outside of the shop indicated that they have soda and water for sale. In short, if you're passing through the Aberdeen area, and you'd like to try your hand and sluicing or panning, stop at Jim's! You won't be disappointed. :)
