The road to the cableway starts from the museum, if you are fit to walk, I suggest you to better walk to the top of the mountain. There is a road going along with cable cars to the top. It’s not either steep or long distance, you can easily walk. There are hundreds of wild orchids on your way which can’t be enjoyed if you are in the cable car. Very silent and beautiful road to the top and the view of the lake from the top is mind blowing. Never miss it.

We got a taxi up to the cablecar, its a bit of walk from the main road. After we'd made arrangements for the taxi to return and pick us up, we found out that on Mondays the cablecar doesn't start until 1600! Slightly annoying, particularly after we had spoken with our hotel staff about getting there, what it was like and what goes on there. So with an hour to fill we began the hike up the hill, unfortunately for us we didn't realise there was a good walking track until we stumbled across it half way up! By that time we were exhausted after bush bashing through the snow and forest! Any hoo, the views are amazing, we had a clear day and the lake looked beautiful. Every other day its open in the morning, so in winter, just ensure you check out the times if you don't feel like walking. It's not a hard walk up, not too steep, we're mid 40s, smoke and didn't have a problem once we found the track. You can also hire ski or snow boards boots etc if you want to do so, and the price for hiring was very reasonable. One of those photos with the two people walking up hill, that is not the track so don't be put off by that shot.

Even if you do not intend to down-hill skiing, I definitely recommend to take the chair-lift to enjoy the stunning view of the area where Angara river meets frozen Lake Baikal.

We were there in February and it was too cold. Yet, we took the chair-lift (of course, you have to take all the precautions not to freeze, cover especially your face, even if it's not windy, it's still very cold up there), then made a walk of around 5 to 10 minutes and we arrived to the observation point. The view was breathtaking. We were there around sunset and pinky colors were mesmerizing.

But I have to underline that the observation area is very small (covered with colorful Shaman prayer tatters), there are lots of tourists around and it's almost impossible to enjoy the serenity of the place. Therefore, we could stay there only 5 to 10 minutes as new people were pouring.

There is also a small café just where the chair-lift station is situated. We were very cold and wanted to drink something hot. So, having a hot drink was the only thing we needed and the place met that need but it was still quite primitive.

Nevertheless, I believe this spot is one of the must sees in Listvyanka, I really liked the atmosphere there.

The cable car is in average condition, rusty in places. But in principle it was not scary to climb. The price is average, not to say expensive, but for that price you can keep the cable car in a fresher condition.
At the top there is a shop with drinks and souvenirs (the souvenirs are inappropriately expensive, apparently for foreign tourists).
Be prepared for the fact that the electricity may be turned off at any moment and you will have to walk down. Also, without electricity, the store will immediately close and you won’t even be able to buy water(

The hike up is aroud 30 min and totally worth it! The path is well signaled and the views awesome. The only thing id that to use the ropeway you need to buy the tickets BEFORE hiking up the mountain since it seems that : 1. You cannot buy one-way only 2. You cannot buy the tickets from the caffee or the stuff that is checking that all goes well.
Also, the toilets were rather unclean so tidiness will make it better

We walked from Listvyanka village and took us 45 minutes to reach Baikal Museum. Take the Akademie Road left of the museum(you facing the museum) that bends to the right behind the museum. Walk uphill for about 12 minutes then you'll come across a set of wooed steps. Climb up those steps then at the top continue left up the road until you reach the start of the chair lifts. Tickets are ₽150 one way. You can easily walk up to the top, probably quicker than the chair lifts if you are reasonably fit. The chairlifts travel so slow so you can take some photos while there. The views of Port Baikal, Listvyanka and Angara River below are stunning.

Just five minutes by ski-lift we could get to the view point.
Can see the Lake Baikal and Angara river. I visited this place Feb 2017 and Lake baikal was totally frozen but angara river was not. It took 20 minutes to walk down.
Fantastic view during winter time. Lots of snow, trees, etc...

The cable car ride is quite scenic in winter with the snow surrounding landscape blanketed white. The short walk to the lookout is easy and the views spectacular.

We visited in winter and had a wonderful view of the steaming lake that was only just starting to freeze over. The skiing was also a nice touch; for approximately 35 euros we rented two full ski sets and a ski pass for three hours (you don't need more time!)

My guess is there's hardly anyone visiting Listvyanka who misses an opportunity to go up to the "Czerski peak" by this cableway.
I write the name of this place in inverted commas because it's actually not a peak but a hill 755 meters above the sea level and it's called the Czerski rock. The peak as such is, mildly saying, situated at a distance, boasts the hight of 2,090 meters and can be conquered only by professionals.
But even from this rock the view over Baikal and Angara river is mesmerizing. To relish it, though, one must get in over one's head to avoid omnipresent Chinese tourists who bother only about themselves and deliriously take pictures and selfies as if they are the only creatures on this planet. Think about it or you'll have to queue like Soviet housewives did after toilet paper (yes, I remember these times!).
There's a nice café at the foot of the cableway plus a toilet. The latter is important since there's nothing up there (well, there IS an outhouse on the hill but it stinks like a thousand camels and besides is locked).
It also seemed strange to me that a road to one of major Baikal sights was so stale and bumpy and "decorated" with some ugly decomposing structures. But it's one of paradoxes of my country - they found money to build a multi-kilometer road from Irkutsk to Listvyanka but couldn't find any for an icing on the cake to the cableway (as well as to disembowel those stenching masterpieces). Enigmatic Russia...
But if we skip these oddities my recommendation will be unambiguous - don't miss it!
(Just for you to know, Jan Czerski - whom we Russians prefer to call Ivan - was sent by the Russian government to Siberia to serve there as a private in the army in retribution to his participation in an anti-Russian revolt in 1861. His final destination was as far as Russian Far East but he managed to bribe some Siberian bureaucrat and ultimately settled in Irkutsk. Stripped of nobility - and property - he didn't give up and started scientific exploration both of Baikal of Eastern Siberia. Czerski discovered and described ALL rivers flowing into this lake, went further on to the Lena, Indigirka and Kolyma rivers and passed away on the latter's banks being buried there. In 1943 Soviet authorities erected a monument to him at that place and his name is given to numerous geographical points, plants, fish, insects, streets in Russia and Belarus and even to an airport in Yakutia.)
