One of so many beautiful churches in Irkutsk. Ifmyiunare lucky, you will hear the bells calling the faithful to prayer. Stop, listen. You don't have to be "Orthodox" to appreciate the grandeur.

We visited the Cathedral of the Epiphany on the sunny friday morning in September. We vere lucky because the christ ortodox wedding was taking place, so we had the oppurtunity to sea and hear some nice music as a part of the event. Cathedral itself is also worth visiting because the interior is nicely preserved and very picturescue and the... More

A bit out of the way so we went by cab. No photography allowed but this church is worth going to. I think if you are emphasizing Orthodox churches in your travels I recommend the church.

Such a beautiful building. There is a walking tour you follow that includes some great sights. Just follow the green line with arrows. They have info posted in Russian AND English by each stop. Of course you will probably not see the lines on the ground under snow...

As impressive and breathtaking as this is from the outside with it's many onion domes it is the interior with it's gilded altar, huge candle holders and other pieces plus the many beautiful icons and the fresoed ceilings and interior domes.

Very imposing cathedral from the outside but that is nothing compared to the splendour inside. Gold decoration, icons and a very rich history. A service was in progress when we visited so we were a bit restricted. However people welcomed us to come in. Well worth a visit to admire the architecture from the outside and the religious significance I... More
