You should not miss this museum if you love art. It has a huge collection of paintings, sculptures, mainly romanticism. I spent three hours there and finally bought a catalog in the gift shop.

Ecliectic mix, regional works, religious artifiacts (Christian and Buddhist), pottery. We didn't get to visit the XIX century paintings due to a live performance, but they looked good on a quick visit.

This collection of Siberian art has several marvellous pieces (not least for those of us who apreciate picture-like paintings!).
It's really worth a visit!

As it only costs 100 rubles for entry I hardly think I should comment that it's hardly value for money - but that's how I feel.
The paintings are poor and poorly displayed. There are only a few explanations of what your looking at in English.
Many of the decrepit rooms are full of chairs and distinctly light on works of art.
Save your money.

It is really a good luck that private collections which became a base for this museum remained untouched. And later curators we're improving it, based on available resources. Anyway, some classics of Russian arts have there pieces, and not bad pieces, still here. Worth visiting...

Nice collection of paintings from a range of eras. Some interesting portraits of the Tsars ranging from the almost Icon like pictures of the first Romanov to the curvy busts of Catherine The Great.
Very cheap entry. Good value for an hour or so.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and range of exhibits on show. There's a very strong collection of 19th century paintings, both historic and contemporary. The guides that are in English give a certain interpretation, but, as in all galleries, you learn from the paintings. I got a lot of insight into the Russian character visiting this place. There is a very helpful staff and some speak English. On the day I visited there was a concert which certainly added to the experience.

Unfortunately, nothing special. I can't say I was impressed.
Despite the large size of the museum, the exhibition is quite sparse.
