Me and my wife visited it in the beginning of June while on a tour of Kazan' which we consider one of the most beautiful cities in this country.
Standing right in the middle of the main pedestrian street this transportation vehicle is hard to miss. It is always clustered by passers-by, however, whether children or grown-ups, so taking a personal photo is a challenge (maybe at dawn).
Empress Catherine II of Russia or Catherine the Great, as locals prefer to call her, was one of the most prominent rulers of this country though by blood she was German. Having toppled her husband (also a German) she reigned that huge empire for more than thirty-four years and transformed it into a formidable Great Power.
She visited Kazan' in 1767, was very pleased by the reception granted by local nobility, clergy and merchantmen and, as a sign of respect, presented the city with one her most luxurious carriages. That monument is its iron replica while the original is exhibited at Tatarstan's State Museum.
Local Tatars nurture good memories of that woman not only because she allowed construction of stone mosques in their native city but also since she banned a practice of baptizing them (they were predominantly Muslim). Plus, she gave an order that Kazan's first theatre be constructed.
Now you know why that monument is so popular here.

This is one of the bigger monuments (out of many) along the pedestrian Bauman St., around the middle of it.
Namely, the monument is an exact replica of the carriage Catherine the Great used when visiting the town in 1767. That visit was very important for the locals, as she gave permission to build the first stone Mosque in Kazan.

If you walk on Kazan Arbat (Bauman street) you probably pass by this carriage in the central part of the street. It is open to public, no booking or ticketing required. Having couple of photo shoots in Kazan album would be nice and it will not take long.

A metal carriage, supposedly a full-size replica, of the one used by Catherine the Great, when the Empress visited the city hundreds of years ago. May not be worth going out of your way to see it, but please don't miss it if you are anywhere near Bauman Street. Ask someone where it is on the street (it is quite a long pedestrian street). If you have kids, this presents a great photo-op. Quite photogenic on its own!

This carriage clearly is a favorite to climb into because you can see how shiny the various foothold places are. The doors of this metal carriage have lovely scenes painted on. Little girls will love this.

She used this in 1767 and possibly donated the original to the city of Kazan. Now children play around it and climb on it. Nice monument in Bauman St.
