Beautiful theatre

We saw Jenufa in this beautiful theatre. We had a box on the ground floor, which was nice but not spectacular. The boxes on the balcony looked much nicer. But really worth it.

My Wife and I visited a performance at the Kirov on a luxury tour through Russia. We were booked in the first row, which was a big, mistake, since the theater, most dances, and sets were very old. At this close range, it seemed to be a troop of pachyderms cluncking around the stage, with alll the grace of aging... More

The Mariinskiy Theatre is a historic theater of opera and ballet in Saint Petersburg. It opened in 1860 & became the pre-eminent music theater of late 19th century Russia, where many of the stage masterpieces of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov received their premieres. Through most of the Soviet era, it was known as the Kirov Theater. Today, the Mariinskiy Theater... More

Recommend a visit to a Mariinsky performance if you ever visit St Peterburg. Culture at its very best.

We bought tickets for the Mariinsky Theatre on-line before we went to Russia which was very easy to use. We saw La Sylphide ballet which was good. The Mariinsky theatre is very impressive, it's a stunning building from the outside as very grand. Inside is just as good as its very ornate and a real pleasure to see a performance... More

This historical theater impresses by its architecture and design. From the balconies I would strongly recommend only the first row as behind them the view is very limited ! Prices are very high.

I prefer opera to ballet, but we liked to see the fine old building inside and this is why we booked for the ballet. The theatre is certainly worth seeing and the performance, if you ask me, was extremely good. It was also nice to see and hear the enthusiastic audience.

You can't talk about Russia without its ballet. And the Mariinsky Theater will show you why. The exterior may not be fancy but make sure to purchase tickets way in advance! Tickets are expensive but you won't regret it. My friend and I were so impressed and would have gone a second time if we had the time. The theater... More

If you like opera or ballet, or even just amazing imperial buildings, check this out. We paid for very good seats but i dont think there is a very bad seat anywhere in the house. The production was very good, and the orchestra was fantastic. I expected to not be able to follow what was going on as i knew... More
