I love St. Petersburg. It was very anti-American and exhibited an uncharacteristic lack of hospitality this time around. This train ride was the high point of the trip. Wow! The staff was super friendly. Professional. The food was good. The compartment was clean. I slept so well. This is a must do. I can't say enough good things about it.... More

It's my favourite train between Saint-Petersburg and Moscow. All the train is red and has couchette, lux and SV coaches. Coaches is eqipped by air-condition systems with a couchette personal regulator of temperature and light. Each coach has classical style and traditional Russian breakfast. In October 2016 I travelled from Moscow to SPB and almost the train was filled by... More

My wife booked this for us as an excursion during our eight nights in St. Petersburg. Highly recommended. We booked our own sleeper car/cabin. You are greeted at the train by hostesses in pressed uniforms and white gloves. When we entered our cabin to find bottled water, croissants w/ jams, and chocolate bars on our dining table. Also included are... More

Great to travel with this historical train from Moscow to SPB. Please make sure you are 30 minutes before departure at the station. Leningradsky isn't a difficult station and we stood on the wrong station initially. Be careful with that. Journey was very adventurous although a bit bumpy and noisy sometimes. Not the best night ever, but a true Russian... More

We took this train as it was extremely convenient and fitted in power schedule. The beds are comfortable, the toilets work in the shower has great pressure. The Internet also works. Therefore all in all it is not bad. Turning to negatives: – 1. This is very much a Soviet experience you will be treated with absolute disdain and do... More

People shouldn't take this train expecting it to be "luxury" as it's far from it. But I'm not sure where else on earth could you ride a train with interior that reminds you of an old movie set (Dr. Zhivago maybe?) like this. The chance of having an overnight ride, just like the Russian elite did 80 years ago is... More

I m not well as travelled as I would love to be, the train journey was an exciting and new experience for me. I bought tickets via the Russian rail official website where there are many trains travel between SPB and Moscow. I picked the Red Arrow due to the historical background, not seeking for luxury. The booking process had... More

No it's not the 'Orient Express' but neither are the prices so unsure why some would assume it would be in that luxury category. Booked direct using Google Translate and it was a lot cheaper than using the English sites. So much so that we got a VIP compartment with our own toilet and shower cheaper than a normal first... In Anna Karenina, Anna famously took the overnight train back to St Petersburg and ran into Vronsky during a stop, with a snowstorm whirling round. On this famous train there are no intermediate stops, but the sense of history prevails. This is, after all, the train that carried the Communist party elite and has been running pretty much continuously since... More

We received rave reviews (from a travel agent) and booked this expensive "luxury" as a one off extravagance but it was a total rip off. The hype says you get a luxurious sleeper cabin like on the Orient Express with breakfast served before you disembark at St Petersburg. The truth is you get a small cramped basic cabin with undecorated... More
