We took this train as it was extremely convenient and fitted in power schedule. The beds are comfortable, the toilets work in the shower has great pressure. The Internet also works. Therefore all in all it is not bad. Turning to negatives: – 1. This is very much a Soviet experience you will be treated with absolute disdain and do... More

People shouldn't take this train expecting it to be "luxury" as it's far from it. But I'm not sure where else on earth could you ride a train with interior that reminds you of an old movie set (Dr. Zhivago maybe?) like this. The chance of having an overnight ride, just like the Russian elite did 80 years ago is... More

I m not well as travelled as I would love to be, the train journey was an exciting and new experience for me. I bought tickets via the Russian rail official website where there are many trains travel between SPB and Moscow. I picked the Red Arrow due to the historical background, not seeking for luxury. The booking process had... More

No it's not the 'Orient Express' but neither are the prices so unsure why some would assume it would be in that luxury category. Booked direct using Google Translate and it was a lot cheaper than using the English sites. So much so that we got a VIP compartment with our own toilet and shower cheaper than a normal first... In Anna Karenina, Anna famously took the overnight train back to St Petersburg and ran into Vronsky during a stop, with a snowstorm whirling round. On this famous train there are no intermediate stops, but the sense of history prevails. This is, after all, the train that carried the Communist party elite and has been running pretty much continuously since... More

We received rave reviews (from a travel agent) and booked this expensive "luxury" as a one off extravagance but it was a total rip off. The hype says you get a luxurious sleeper cabin like on the Orient Express with breakfast served before you disembark at St Petersburg. The truth is you get a small cramped basic cabin with undecorated... More

We were travelling from St Petersburg to Moscow and decided to take the midnight express, it really is a fun way to travel. The compartments are spotless cosy and comfortable, there is a little pack of food and nice plates cutlery and glasses. The ride was quite bumpy but I still slept really well and was disappointed when we arrived... More

Let me first say this is an amazing train. It looked beautiful as I walked Down the platform, I was greated by first name by the pavodnitsa, and there was a small snack waiting in the room when I entered. As others have mentioned it leaves just before midnight from St Petersburg and arrives just before 8am in Moscow. All... More

I read that the train has historic significance as it carried communist party. That there is some band that plays etc before it leaves. In terms of that experience, there isn't much. But having said that, the train itself is very comfortable. It runs from Saint Petersburg to Moscow at 12 in night and reaches at 8. There is breakfast... More

We travelled overnight on the red arrow express between Moscow and St Petersburg. The train was spotlessly clean and we had a private cabin for the two of us. We could order a variety of drinks and a croissant type snack was also in the carriage as was a travel pack including toothpaste and slippers. The main disappointment for us... More
