discount for nurses and doctors and you can see one of Pavlov's dogs
Jun 2019 • Solo
This is an old style museum, which has a room and stations around it. All the rooms are brightly lit.

They most interesting item to see is one of Pavlov's dogs. I guess I never really thought about how they would measure the salivation so it was a reality check when I say the dog, a bit of a shock I must add.

They have an over 18 room which was a let down. It was a room for reproduction.

AVOID: DRUNK AND RUDE STUFF
May 2019 • Family
Went into this museum with my mother, to purchase tickets and to see what it is about as we were on our way to Faberge and noticed this little museum, but unfortunately, we couldn't get past the door as a DRUNK guard started to shout at us.

The conversation went like this (in Russian - both I and my mother are fluent):
- MONEY!!!
- What?
- DO YOU HAVE MONEY?
- Of course.
- MONEY, MONEY, DO YOU HAVE MONEY????
- Yes.
- THIS IS A MUSEUM, YOU NEED MONEY.
- Thank you for your hospitality. Goodbye.

This was one of the most disgusting experiences we had in St Petersburg. The only thing we learned is that the staff of this museum takes the hygiene very seriously and disinfect their insides as soon as the morning strikes (we were there around 11 AM on 4th of May 2019).

Not only the guard seemed drunk and rude, but he also felt like he might get aggressive, so we left before any more exchanges could happen.

The museum itself was in a quite beautiful building and seemed suitable for children, but unfortunately due to the experience we had, would definitely not suggest it to anyone, especially children.

More of a human body museum than hygiene
The museum was good but not what we expected. There was one room on hygiene but the rest was about the human body. If you like anatomy and biology then you will probably enjoy it - though probably won't write home about it.

None of the explanations are in English so you have to use your imagination a bit. There is an English guide book that takes you through the exhibitions, but it is not as detailed or specific as it could be.

antiquated, shop-soiled and inadvisable
I visited the museum with my familie in Oktober 2013. Sadly the museum did not match our expectations. I visited the Charité museum in Berlin and throught that it would be comparible with the museum of hygiene in St. Petersburg. It was not. There was not much variety. The exibition was small and could be covered within ten minutes. The museum is also not opend for international tourists. No signs or explanations could be found in English expect a small guide which was available at the checkout. All in all it was a poor experience for my whole family. It was antiquated, shop-soiled and inadvisable. I can hardly recommend anyone to visit this museum. It's a waste of time for everyone who does not expect much except general, simple examples.

Curiously Interesting
Aug 2011 • Couples
This is one of those interesting museums remaining from Soviet times that teaches the importance of hygiene. While that may not sound very exciting, the displays of disease-ridden human organs puts it all out there to scare you into being a cleaner person (it's not as gruesome as it sounds). The lack of English signage (just a paper flyer) makes it even more entertaining at times. It's definitely off the main tourist route, but worth a visit for something odd and different that you won't find outside of St Petersburg.
