- drogilmourGuatemala City, Guatemala2,691 contributionsNo such embankment. There are several embankments on the Neva. One in the former British Embassy is called the British Embankment, the University embankment by the Egyptian statues, called the Admiralty Embankment by the Admiralty building, the Kutuzov by the Kutusov palace by the Neva, the Petrovskaya by the cabin of Peter the Great, the one by the Hermitage is called the Palace Embankment. My favorite was the palace embankment, overlooking the Roman columns of the Vasileostrovsky / Petrogradsky district and the old palace. Walking along the embankments of the Neva one can admire a myriad of palaces and important buildings and parks.Written January 14, 2020

Traveled as a coupleWritten April 24, 2019
Written September 24, 2020

I have visited many cities built on rivers, but few have such breath-taking riversides. The architecture and colours used, make it a visually stunning masterpiece. And that's in daylight. Take a nighttime boat trip and you'll see something even more stunning. Wonderful.

I have walked along there and enjoyed the views from the other side of the river. The best way is going on a neva boat trip. In summer I recommend doing an evening tour with sunset and darkness and the glittering bridge lights. Fantastic views and impressions I will never forget.

St. Petersburg has many rivers criss-crossing the city which consists of numerous islands. Because of that, taking a boat to roam over the rivers and canals allows us to view the city and its iconic buildings and monuments conveniently and from different angles.
There are various boat trip options. Many travel agents include English speaking guides or narratives, dinner, blankets and other trivia which made them more expensive and you are bound to pre-defined schedules.
The other cheaper and more flexible alternative is to take public boats available at, among others, the pier at Neva river embankment close to Admiralty Building.
We enjoyed the cruise along the waterways and also the hydrofoil trip to Peterhof/Grand Palace (visited in June a few years back).

Enhanced by the Glory of the palaces and buildings from eras gone by encompassing some dynamic architecture to the humble fishermen along the banks this area needs to be witnessed and strolled along. If you have the weather and time do not miss. Just as outstanding are the bridges, churches, Submarine C-189, Hermitage, and on and on..... With illumination at night it is just as spectacular in an awesome way.

Was lucky enough to have good weather whilst visiting SP there fore was able to sit on the sand and eat my picnic and have 1/2 hour sunbathing. Really never expected to be able to do that! You are just like a child in a toy shop walking along, so much to see. You must bring good walking shoes.

When you look across the river and see the Winter Palace (aka the Hermitage), sparkling in the sun. You know you are in St. Petersburg. I had to keep pinching myself - when you have seen this in movies, tv shows, books all you life and you see it with your own eyes. Nothing is better.

We used the Neva Travel Company twice and both were terrible experiences. (The blue company so you can spot it easily)
The first one was the Angloturismo night. The boat was old, dirty and in poor condition. Our guide was so bored -I guess by doing the same trip all over again- that she couldn't get any attention to her dull commentaries.
The following day we took the Hydrofoil from Saint Petersburg to Peterhof and back. What a nightmare!
On our way to Peterhof the host didn`t stop talking on the microphone trying to sell all kinds of booklets, souvenirs, excursions and so forth. We never had a quiet time! On top of it, there is no sign or people appointed to indicate any security measures such as emergency exits, lifesavers, etc. On our way back the boat was half empty, so they made us wait for ONE HOUR inside the boat for the next scheduled trip. I had my train to catch to Moscow that afternoon, so I looked for someone to tell us the reason for the delay. Nobody speaks English, they didn't even give an explanation or apology in Russian. When I was looking for some help I noticed the lifesavers piled up at the back of the boat. When we finally sailed, again the crew was there to sell souvenirs and more, and again nobody gave information of the security measures. We left one hour behind schedule, until the boat was full! When we arrived in Saint Petersburg I went to the ticket office to ask for a reimburse, the man at the office was as rude as he could be! He told me that our delay was due to bad weather- at this point I must say it was the only sunny day we had that week in Saint Petersburg -. He, also, almost yelled, that he could not reimburse me because I used the boat. It is clear to me that they made us wait so the boat was full so they saved fuel and expenses. Too late I realized the other company, Astra, the red one, has newer and better boats, more trips and I am sure better service!

Glimpses of the river as we walked to the museum churches. We had hoped to take the river cruise, but there was still ice!

Ci sono tante compagnie si vedono le postazioni di partenza lungo i canali e i prezzi sono più o meno uguali e dipendono dai percorsi e dal tempo di navigazione . Vanno dai 15 euro a persona in su

the translator didn't work very well. But I recommend a tour in boat of 1 or 2 hours. is very nice. Also you can go to peterhof in boat instead of taking the road. The pier is justo next to peter and paul fortress.

Yes there are. I did the Neva river and canal trip, (twice - thanks to Mr.Putin's state visit). We should have done the Aurora trip, but it was cancelled because Putin was there.

Salve
