This very nice museum would take a full day of visit if you wanted to see and retrieve all available information. Very interesting exhibitions, with good English translation, vividly depict Russia's tormented history from the 19th century, the February and October revolutions to the present era. I was quite impressed by the relative objectivity with which the museum's curators reviewed... More

We had a moving, informative and thought-provoking visit to this State Museum. After an admittedly splendid diet of old palaces and churches, this museum took us through the turbulent Russian twentieth century. The brutalities and magnificences are explained via an effective mixture of exhibits and filmed testimonies. Take one of the audio guides offered - inexpensive and well worthwhile. Friendly... More

On my sixth visit to SPb, I finally got around to visiting this museum. What on earth was I waiting for? The history of the building is fascinating: the beautiful mansion was built for Tsar Nicholas II's former mistress, and was Lenin's headquarters in the summer of 1917. Connected with a neighboring mansion, it houses a fascinating collection which is... More

This is a real good museum. Combination with present times and the history of country, and the building its self. The only problem is with navigation. It's really worth to take a guide, it would safe you time a lot

This is a must for everyone interested in the history of Russia in the 20th century. The museum is located very close to the Peter and Paul fortress, the old Peter's hut, the Aurora cruiser, Kirov's apartment and the museum of artillery, so you can easily include a visit in your plan without any substantial detour. The museum traces the... More

The museum isn't very well organised. The English audio tour for the museum has a number of mistakes (wrong dates, wrong descriptions of exhibits, in some cases even outtakes have been included!). Without it though I think most visitors would be even more lost though so I'd recommend getting it if you go - just be on your toes. The... More

Here on the great island of Petrogradsky District, in Kuibysheva street is located this State Museum of the Political History of Russia. We got there via Trinity Bridge, coming from the side of Palace Embankment and The Field of Mars. The museum is settled in an attractive art nouveau mansion, which was built at the times for Mathilda Kshesinskaya, the... More

As we entered the museum, a large group of Russian military cadets was leaving. We figured that was a sign this museum was worth a visit, and indeed it was. You have a choice of two audio tours in English -- one that takes about an hour, and one that we were told takes up to three hours. The museum... More

This museum has reasonable prices and is one of the most interesting in St Petersburg. A newly refurbished, incredibly detailed museum, a lover of Soviet history will be in their element here. It is slightly off the more popular beaten tourist track, so would need to be prepared to get on the metro (just one stop from Nevskii Prospekt on... More

If you are interested in history you will like this museum and if you already know about Russian history I am sure you will find it fabulous. I paid for an English guide, but there is English information in most, if not all exhibits, I was glad I did, the guide was enthusiastic and very interested in telling me all... More
