We were able to catch a military display by the Russian Military. It was awesome. Also a few people dressed up wanting to take photos and horse and carriages available for rent.

Palace Square is enormous! The hardest part is finding a place or time to get a photo without hundreds of people in the background. I spent an hour photo-shopping people out of our portraits. Overhead wires too seem to be everywhere. Pictures do not show the vastness of the place.

This large square is situated in front of the Hermitage museum in the Winter Palace. The other buildings around the perimeter are also attractive. There are a small number of horse drawn carriages you can ride in and a good number of small stalls where you can buy touristy souvenirs and snacks (including an excellent hot dog and some very... You can even rent renaissance outfits and make your own pictures more spectacular or you can just pay one of the many actors in the square dressed according to that period to take pictures with you. We did both ;)

It's right next to the Hermitage so you'll probably visit it. Very impressive. Ps: bring your own water bottles and snacks as it is very expensive there, amd by very I mean like about 100 Ruble for a small bottle of water.

... is one of the greatest plazas in the world in scale. It could benefit from the addition of benches or other seating so more time can be spent there from the footsore Hermitage museum goers, but nonetheless transmits the scale and grandeur of a different age, and the tremendous size of the Hermitage and General Staff Buildings can only... Yet more palatial opulence around a huge square provides more photo opportunities. What it must have been to be a Royal in Russia in its heyday?

This is the place which any one should visit during night. Lights all around fascinate any visitor. Many people visit the place during the day, but according to me night visit is a must if you are visiting St. Petersburg.
