I am not an art expert but I spent 5 hours wandering through the Hermitage and left very impressed. It is a must on your St. Petersburg itinerary.

The main attraction in St-Petersburg. Visiting this museum you will discover Russian Barokko and collection of masterpieces of worldwide heritage - Da Vinci, Raffael, Rembrandt and etc. If you want to avoid enormous queues arrange a guide visit - it also will be more interesting and really worth it. Unbelievable collection of impressionist is placed in separate building. You can enjoy... More

Great place as per other posts. I suggest buying a 2 day pass in advance - available online and applies to 2 consecutive days. The place is huge, do your feet a favour and spread out the visit over 2 days. The newer artwork is in the "staff building" ie impressionists, modern stuff ... When we visited there were few... Hermitage is a vast museum, it poses huge challenges, both mental and physical endurance on any visitors. From my personal experiences (visited three times) once followed a cruise tour, and twice on my own, I found it is impossible to see its entirety at one go. Hermitage has a general staff building, across the plaza, as far as I know,... More

The museum is gigantic. The Guide shows the highlights in three hours which are truly excellent if you do not have any further time and you can barely see clearly with the huge crowds. If you like Museums and I think you can buy a two day ticket, you should go the next day by yourself as you have the... More

I visited the Hermitage as part of a group in September 2015. Time was limited, but our excellent guide helped us enjoy every minute. The building with its extravagant interior and the artwork of old masters just amazed me. For me the absolute highlight was to see the painting of "the return of the prodigal son" by Rembrandt, after reading... More

First, see the palace at night from the opposite shore of the Neva River. Then ask yourself is Paris really the City of Lights? Second, hire a top rate guide. We used Michael and got him through Elena at Soko Hotel. Third, after you see the Winter Palace go through it again. Fourth, don't miss the da Vinci, Michaelangelo and... More

One could come to St Petersburg only for the Ermitage. The building is amazing, the collection is stunning. You need more than one day and be ready to pick and choose the pieces you want to see. You can see the impressionists' collection in the "staff building" which is a totally must see as well. Order you tickets via internet... More

Take 2 days to see this incredible "Winter Palace" of the Czars- Located right on the Neva River, easy walking distance to everything, especialy to Nevsky Prospect Street, which is another review! Russia is amazing, I am absolutely impressed with the people, the place..the history! Read the book about Catherine the Great before you go! Much better to understand some... More
