I took a full day tour with Sergei and this was a huge highlight of my Europe trip. Not only this, but the booking process with Timofey was very easy. He was very responsive and helpful. For the entirety of our 9 hours together Sergei had an incredible amount of fascinating information about the sites we saw. Everything was perfectly punctual and entries to museums and churches well arranged. In the Hermitage Museum, Sergei asked if there was any particular art I would be interested in seeing, and knew exactly where to find some very interesting pieces related to my interests. As a solo traveler and graduate student, this was a splurge (I had a private tour), but it was very well worth it because I learned so much about this fascinating city that I never would have otherwise known.

We used Timofey for a second time in St Petersburg. He set us up with a guide named Daria who was excellent and very knowledgeable about art and Russian history. She was the highlight of our trip. She guided us at the hermitage and Catherine’s palace. Timofey was easy to deal with over email and very straightforward. We also met him briefly at Catherine’s palace. Highly recommended.

We had the good fortune to have found Tailored Tours on the web when looking for University Professors to give our college student daughters a high level tour of the politics, art and history of Russia. Vladimir, formerly in charge of the Hermitage Codex, versed in Hebrew, Greek and Latin, with a beautiful command of the English language as well, was superb as a historian with a deep love of Russia and surprising views on politics and communism that thrilled us to the core; he made our whole stay memorable and we have been touting him to all our St Petersburg bound friends ever since. Ekatarina the art historian gave us an incredible tour of the Hermitage over two days, with early entry giving us the privilege of being the first people in the palace way ahead of any crowds, like being a csar walking through the deserted halls filled with masterpieces. Timofey, our contact for Tailored Tours connected us to Maria Soboleva of "Tour of Moscow" who took us on a curated historical tour of the Tretyakov Gallery, literally travelling from painting to painting to illustrate the evolution of the Russian soul. A magnificent experience! One of our best vacations ever!

My wife and I took the 2-day version of the Tailored Tours. Timofey was very diligent about designing an itinerary that was well suited to our interests and scheduling preferences (it included Peterhof and Pushkin, the Hermitage, the 3 cathedrals, and a private boat tour along the rivers and canals). He was also able to get us tickets for Catherine’s Palace, which can be difficult to get. Our tour guide, Sergei, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about Russian history as well as contemporary society, and gave clear, thorough, and interesting explanations, sometimes even providing a personal touch based on his own experiences or those of his family. He was very engaging and easy to connect with even though we’re much older than him. We also appreciated his taking us to see the Archaeological exhibit of the Hermitage, which highlighted how huge and ethnically diverse Russia actually is, in addition to the European art exhibits which most tourists focus on. He even gave us several very helpful restaurant recommendations. This tour was heavily focused on the Romanov era of Russian history and was quite light on the Soviet era. Ideally we would have liked to learn a bit more about the Soviet era, but we realize that can be more difficult. In any case, this was a truly excellent tour and very well worth the money.
