Probably, the best area for local eats too. Key features: 1920’s semi-defunct Soviet factory, University area, one of the finest embankments in town with its imperial palaces and exotic monuments, Academy of Fine Arts, the narrowest street in St. Pete’s, German quarter, St. Andrew’s church, local market, students’ hangouts.

Vasilievski Island from the inside out. ON-LINE

Saint Petersburg is a very large city and its historical center covers three different islands. Even travelers who stay in the city for a few weeks cannot see all its beauty. There are also not many people who get to enjoy its small streets, old buildings, residential neighborhoods, simply do not give them time to see them. Unfortunately these days most of us cannot travel much, so we offer our tour thinking of several categories of travelers: those who have already been to the city may see something new, those who just want to come - plan their future trip, using our explanations and recommendations

Dostoevsky Walk: The Master of St. Petersburg

Some critics view Leo Tolstoy as top Russian writer ever. We believe that human nature was best explored and understood by someone else – Fyodor Dostoevsky. Joining our Dostoevsky walking tour in St. Petersburg you will learn about the writer’s dramatic life, his work and his love. Hear stories about how “the beacon of Russian intelligentsia” and “the Master of St. Petersburg” was once sentenced to death, survived imprisonment, nearly ended up in publisher’s pocket, but got away with it, and how it influenced the writing of his books. Wonder the little streets and back alleyways, go across foot bridges in the area generally known as Dostoevsky district. Visit places where The White Nights, Brothers Karamazov and The Idiot were written. Make the 730 steps from Raskolnikov’s house to the pawn-broker’s apartment, soak in the atmosphere of Hay market square and visit other iconic spots from Crime and Punishment.

If you want to really understand a city and see its underbelly you have to walk it with a local. Anglotourismo was fabulous - responded to our emails quickly and made us welcome. The tour was well planned and we walked through neighbourhoods and saw things we would never otherwise have found. I'm sorry we discovered them too late because we would have done more tours if we'd had the time. Highly recommended - one of the highlights of our stay. Gleb was gorgeous.
