You won't believe how easy it is to paint a matryoshka! Elena makes it simple with her step by step advice. I wish I had gotten her 'Paint your own matryoshka' set for home because I think my next matryushka would turn out even better. My friend amd I had a wonderful time. The location in Nevsky Prospect is really convenient and we had no problem finding it.

I thoroughly enjoyed painting my three matryoshka dolls. Elena Petina was a patient teacher who corrected my small mistakes. I worked very hard for 3 hours, but I am extremely happy with my unique hand-made souvenir of St Petersburg, Russia.

I would recommend this class at the Museum of Matryoshka to my friends!

I did some research by reviewing matryoshka images on the internet before the class to decide my colour combinations, what colour hair and eyes I wanted, style, and type of decoration etc. I wasted no time in class.

I am no artist but the teacher gave us step by step instructions, fixed our slips and mess ups and I how have a very personal souvenir that I shall treasure forever.
The doll,s face is already painted and you just do each section in order and add your own personal touch. There’s lots of inspiration around you and cards for simpler designs also.
A super way to get off your feet for 2 hours (or 3 if you’re a bit slower like me.)
Cannot recommend highly enough!

I, a male/man/guy/person, did this class with my wife and absolutely loved it. It was very relaxing. The staff were super-nice and showed us their techniques which made for an authentic and enjoyable experience ending with a perfect souvenir for Gran. Really happy with the result! This place is brand new, so get in while you still can.

We visited to paint our very own Matryoshka dolls when we visited St Petersburg on a cruise and arranged the trip through Valeria at St. Petersburg Guided tours.

It was a huge highlight of our trip - we had so much fun and the teacher was very good showing us different methods to try so that we were all very pleased with our finished dolls (which they varnished for us to give them a lovely finish).
The dolls dried quickly (sometimes with the help of a hairdrier) and were ready to take away with us .

The finishing touches we were shown transformed them into great dolls.

we all took part - two adults and two teenagers and we all found it very absorbing

Me and my sister have had wonderful time making Matryoshka Dolls with Elena. She is a very patience ,skillfull and kind master. She will guide you through every steps of the way and when you messed it up she will also help you fix your dolls, dont worry lol.

Be sure to book in advance because she needs to prepare the dolls for you. Dolls come with full face drawn, you will get to choose the rest (hair, headpiece, colors and patterns of the dress). It will take around 3 hrs to finish 3 dolls, or if you dont have that much time, making 1 doll option is also available. Enjoy!

My friends and I decided to book this having seen the reviews- so glad we did....now we are not the slightest bit artistic, but Elena is very patient and instructs you in stages.....can believe that this was all our own work (except the face and front decoration)....one of the dolls even sported football colours !!!
I enjoyed it so much that came the next day with one member of our party who was ill and couldn't make the original date .....
Hopefully the photographs will show how much we enjoyed it .....and our level of concentration!!
This was one of the highlights of our trip and my Matryoshka doll has pride of place at home ...
In a word- book it- you'll love it .....fun for all ages !!

My Husband and I came to Russia in December, first day we decided not to book any tours and take it easy. Last minute we decided to try something and this workshop was worth the experience, very enjoyable will definitely go it again with family, the atmosphere is friendly and fun its more like a family than an artwork shop.

If there is anything that can be better, since the place is designed with a lot of the history about the doll and different parts of Russia. I wish the masters took 10-15 minutes to take us through the history and making process of the doll.

It is a well organized/planned event to get hands-on experience to first timers, and also to gain more expertise to experienced (People from local community also visits to take part in these events).

Elena guided us in completing the task elegantly. Her attention to participants and the dedication in motivating is highly remarkable.

It is understood that people have exerted tremendous efforts to put up the Matryoshka Museum, preserve the culture and exchange/teach others about it (especially with foreigners) which is highly appreciated.

It’s fun and enjoyed a lot and a must visit in Saint Petersburg.
