Perfect combination between historical sites and relaxing. There is a beach next to the Kremlin. Must see! I would recommend to go to the icon museum. Read a bit on the internet before you go because a lot of the info is only in russian. Have fun!

Veliky Novgorod's historic old town is beautiful with Kremlin and many churches to visit. It's definitely worth making an effort to stay overnight to visit the nearby Yuryevo with its St Georges Monstery and Vitoslavlintsy open air museum. V Novgorod is only four hours by bus from St Petersburg.

Although substantially reconstructed and including several anachronistic elements (such as a grotesque nineteenth century memorial that attempts to incorporate every major element of Russian national culture), this is a remarkable site for those interested in medieval history. The historical museum within the site is very good and should not be overlooked.

We spent an hour walking through this beautiful and small fortification. It is being restored so the rampart walks are all being put back and th views over the river are wonderful. Peaceful area with the eternal flame, Millennium Sculpture and Sofia's church.

This is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Russia and well worth the trip if you are already on Moscow or St Petersburg. It's a 15th century fortress built roughly around the same time as the current version of the Moscow Kremlin, with lots of interesting landmarks inside - including Russia's first cathedral built in the 11th... Take the walk from the other side of the river and enjoy the view from there. Don't forget also to go there at night, it's beautifully floodlighted

This is a good place to get a sense of the real Russia without the hassle and expense of the big cities. Look for the Museum of Wooden Buildings" just outside of town. Don't expect everyone to speak English

Novorogard is situated on the railway between St Petersburg and Moscow and is well worth a break in the journey to spend the best part of the day here. The st Petersburg train leaves leaves just after 7am and gets into Novrogod around 10am. The overnight train to Moscow leaves just after 9pm and gets into Moscow around 5am the... More

Novgorod is the city, where the russian ancient state originated. And that state was a kind of democracy with no authoritarianism, tzars, with no opression of common people. Novgorod is much older than Kiev, Moscow or any other russian city exept, probably, Ladoga, the Novgorod predecessor. And the novgorod Kremlin (fortress) is the heart of the town. Those who want...
