Perched on a hill over looking Magadan is this Mask of Sorrow commemorating the people perished in nearby gulags and camps. This is fairly far from town, so take a taxi.

It is difficult to articulate the impact of this sculpture and hard to imagine anything depicting the losses this city, as a former Gulag, has suffered. Everyone who visits this region should invest some time visiting this sombre but beautiful monument.
