This is an old cathedral within a Monastery. It's design is interesting and again the white exterior stands out against the surroundings. We visited it on a shore excursion of our Viking River Cruise.

Spent some time wandering around this walled complex of the Transfiguration Monastery. The Transfiguration Cathedral is often closed to protect its frescoes from moisture. The other buildings in the complex are interesting. There are gift shops to visit which have interesting souvenirs.

Transfiguration Cathedral and Monastery was built during the 12th-16th century. It served as the kremlin or protected area of the city so has thick walls around it. An eternal flame is at the entrance and has a magnificent view in the rear.
