This is a great city it’s huge it really never sleeps with ecclectic buildings and places like the Kremlin the lovely ‘James bond meets Poetin ‘Gorkypark ( used in many Spy Movies )
the Cold war museum, the modern shops
BUT the best way to enjoy Moscow is simply to wander about.
Take the Subway and get out ‘somewhere’
And enjoy how diverse and huge this city is.
Look up see the Sky enjoy the buildings ( from past centuries to the stalinist intimidating) architecture
Take a borsjt soup, and drink a wodka like the Russians do.
Do svidanya ! ( see you )

Firstly i must say Mosow is absolutely beautiful.. top 5 in all the countries I have travelled to. Lovely and golden architectures and Gorgeous metros . What spoilt it for me 1. Arrogant and impolite immigration officers 2. Rip off / dishonest airport taxis from Svo airport 3. Unfriendly people. 4. Horrible customer service esp at the hotel I stayed.5. Expensive and 6. Couldn't find authentic Russian food at restaurants. 7. Many establishments will lie to you saying the card machine isnt working, just not to accept credit cards. However, Moscow city aesthetically is beautiful.

Moscow - Russia - a country I was very skeptical about visiting after reading all the blogs on different websites. But to my surprise it is not as bad as they say it is. It is a beautiful country with a lot of history and culture. Right from the airport it was a pleasant experience. You get a SIM card at the airport itself - the boy's don't speak much English but do understand what you are looking for and were very helpful. Was petrified to take the airport express and metro as had read how it was only for the strong and to some extent I do agree with them. The airport express was excellent right on time easy to board lots of baggage space very spacious. You reach the city centre and that's where you gotta be a real soldier. First of all everything is written in Russian it difficult to understand with an English map. My suggestion just ask for help. The Russians are friendly and helpful people. From the police who don't speak much English but do understand if you show them where you gotta go. So my suggestion have both an English and Russian metro map. But the tough part is that the metro is a maze it's not just one or two levels underground at someplaces it's three levels down and confusing as the signage does not say go down and follow directions for level three. So basically the metro is very intricate, well connected but lots of walking and trust me when I say lots I mean it. Have your walking shoes ready. Its complicated. But once you've got the hang of it, it's fine. You get a metro card at the metro station a card for 5,10, 20 raids (rides). As all others said have your documents with you all the time, you could be asked anytime. Copies are fine. Moscow was very clean. No garbage strewn across the street. Roads were washed twice a day. Very clean. The metro stations are like museums each has a unique display or art and history. It's amazing. Very clean again. No stench, no dirt. The tourist attraction spots are clean too any it's incredible. Beautiful display of art. A lot of history. All in all Russia was a beautiful surprise.

What is it? Moscow? Dubai? New York?
I go there quite often for business purposes but every time I step in, I feel uneasy. Faceless concrete parallelepipeds and other sky-scraping doodahs, sterile cleanliness inside, office plankton everywhere, same burgers, sandwiches, sushi as in other corners of the world. Nothing Russian, nothing authentic.
The place might be interesting for those who come to a big city for the first time. Otherwise it's boring.

OK we admit we expected Moscow to be intimidating, grey, over bearing and boring. Just like the image portrayed for so long. Instead we found beauty, magnificence, friendly people, great sights oh and 7 million vehicles on the roads. We rode the Metro, shopped both in town and in an outer area and got what we needed. We saw some things that I never thought we would. Wandered around the Kremlin ( an old fortress, not an intimidating building as we expected). We can not recommend a visit strong enough. Admittedly we were in town on an organised tour but we had plenty of opportunity to wander by ourselves. A week in Moscow in May in shorts and t shirts was another unexpected bonus. The Metro is awesome, the food was great. Not a thing to complain about. Oh did I mention the traffic 🤪🤪

Acctually a very cheap city for everything that I have done, I visited Moscow after WC...

13€ taxi for 33km including a tip (fixed price, Gett mobile app)
2€ Coca Cola in a bar in a city center (Lisitza)
320€ 7 nights for 2 people in a hotel room in a city center (Matreshka hotel)
0,7€ public transport ticket in the worst scenario, if you buy tickets one by one

Is that maybe the case in London, Paris, Rome...?
No, I've been in all of them and many others and it's much much more expensive.

Flowers everywhere, including many flowers stores open 24/7 :)

This city is mental. In a good way. It's huge - you think New York is big? You think London is big? You think Canberra is big? This is HUGE. And worth it. Unlike the other places, this isn't artificially big - it's just imposing, huge, respectable, and beautiful.

It needs more recognition; the blues bars, the jazz bars, the Kremlin, Red Square; the entire city is just eye watering history and.... well; you'll never feel smaller and more humble in any other place on earth.

Here's a little entry from my diary I'll share; "after spending the day with an ex English teacher/ /my unofficial translator, we got drunk on Russian vodka. I found myself alone, wandering the streets at about 1 am, dark and freezing, when I turned a corner and met a horse, a giant horse standing over 7 feet, in the 1ft snow, watching me, as was his rider - a police officer, mounted on the horse. The horse (and rider) apparently knew of my presence for some time; I was the only surprised one. Anyway he shook off his metal spiked cloven hooves from snow, looked at me, and carried on walking whilst I stood physically unable to move for a bit, amazed and rooted to the spot in amazement for a good few minutes.

Go to Russia.

Moscow is one of the cleanest cites I have ever seen and visited. I enjoyed the downtown business buildings, Red Square, Tomb of unknown soldiers, Arbat Ave area and, of course, the many churches throughout Moscow. I enjoyed Moscow so much, I stayed in the Moscow for all 30 days of my visa. I did not make to St Petersburg. I so enjoyed this city. God willing, may be next year...

If you’re thinking of Moscow as a cold, uninviting city full of brutalist Soviet era architecture, then you’re in for a huge surprise.

It’s actually a beautiful, modern city with plenty of attractive buildings and lots of things to see and do. In fact, sometimes if it wasn’t for the Cyrillic alphabet in evidence everywhere, you could mistake Moscow for any stylish European capital.

At least 80% of Muscovites are charming and helpful and English is spoken all over the city. The rest, by contrast, can appear quite abrupt or even rude by western standards, but don’t take it personally. They’re likely to be exactly the same with everyone, and you shouldn’t let that spoil your experience of what is otherwise an interesting and even fascinating city.

For anyone familiar with the London Underground, getting about on the Moscow Metro will be easy. The lines are numbered and colour coded and announcements on the trains are in both Russian and English.

It’s definitely worth going for at least a long weekend, but as you’ll probably need to fork out for a visa anyway, it makes sense to make it a longer trip. You could even spend a few days in Moscow followed by a few days in St Petersburg, taking the Sapsan express train between the two. Explore and enjoy!

Amazing buildings. Depicting the contrast between the communist period and the modern-western one! This is were the money flows and it is more than crystal. Be careful of the prices!
