Remarkable building of Stalin Era is a heart of numerous surrounding faculties of Moscow state University. Very well maintained parks around, pedestrian zone, great place to walk if weather permits. Unfortunately you con not get in unless you have a pass as it is students facility.

A lot of Moscow visitors go to the view point on Vorobyevy Gory where they can find a wonderful view over all Moscow. Opposite that view they can see not less wonderful main building of Moscow State University, which was built in 1949-1953.
A few visitors know that only central part of this building is using for study. All sides are for living: there`re apartments for professors and dorms for students. If you have a friends who live in the dorm at MSU Main Building, you can easily enter inside with their help, otherwise, unfortunately, there`re no free entrance inside. I don`t know does one agency who provide excursions to the museum on 33th floor for russians able to do this for foreigners. If you`re interested in it, you can try to find information somewhere else.
Hints:
1) the easiest way to get here is from Universitet metro station. You can walk around on your way to the view point and finish your walk at Vorobyevy Gory metro station.
2) Main Building and some other buildings are closed for free entrance without pass, but you can want to eat or go to a toilet while your walk. Let`s look on the map:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=ru&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=213100863747500496166.0004974c91b3bce7d15ad&ll=55.701073,37.532301&spn=0.00503,0.010933&z=17
You can find toilet in МГУ1С37 (right and down from Main Building, near the staduim) building (used for sports), free entrance.
You can find a good cafe in МГУ1С40 (left and up, on ulitsa Akademika Khokhlova) building, free entrance, good prices, nice service, good food.

The Stalinist architecture was very intriguing yet majestic! I always dreamed to attend MGU and study Russian and history and even music there. I truly embrace myself with all the Russian love from the uni. MGU the most renowned uni of Russia and possibly of Europe.

the classic building of the MSU, one of "7 sisters" is the best out of seven. Be sure you have a knowledgeable guide who could tell you a lot of history of these sisters. More importantly, it is the best and only place where you can comfortably take pictures of Moscow's view. It is a 20-min hike from metro (be sure you have a GPS) or 2 stops on a bus + a hike. Uber is probably the best option if walking is difficult.

My husband and I have graduated from this University and were very saddened by the state of the club entrance to the main building.
We were greeted by very rude security guards on a power trip. We were not let inside, despite having our degree certificates with us.
It is real shame that the best university of the country is in such unloved and poor state!

Ignore those saying that it's just a big building. This is the Oxford/Harvard of Russia and the grounds are very nice, as witnessed by the large number of locals that use them for recreation. They have a ski jump in the winter and roll people down the hill in inflatable balls during the summer. People let their children swim and play in the fountains. There are tables set up like a small market and we enjoyed perusing the wares. You can take a relaxing walk down to the river. Not only is this a nice place to visit and mingle, it was probably the most relaxing day I had during my entire visit.

Generally local tourists visit there. But the atmosphere is great. You should visit the terrace in front of the university. The view is amazing. Dont skip to visit here during your Moscow visit.

The building that is the subject of this review is just one of many buildings of the Moscow State University. Officially it is called - main building, aka GZ (its acronym in Russian). The central part is the study area. The wings host professors' apartments (!) and post-graduate student dormitories.
If you get a chance visit one of the top floors for a fantastic view. Unfortunately it is not so easy to get there.

Easy walk option, cca 2 hours:
Go to Universitet (Russian: Университе́т) Metro Station, walk toward main university building. You will pass different buildings from 60´s and 80´s located in nice university park. After short time you should reach front of Main University Building. Admire the architecture of Soviet 50´s. Follow park and fountain towards city center and you will reach observation point with amazing view of Moscow. Use the ski lifts on the right side for trip to river´s bank. Lift operate until 21:30. Finish at Sparrow Hills (Russian: Воробьёвы го́ры, Vorobyovy Gory) Metro station.
Useful hint: Be at observation point at sunset time.
1/2 day walk option
Same as above but extend your walk on bank of Moscow River towards Gorky Park. Finish at Oktyabrskaya (Russian: Октябрьская) Metro station.
Challenging 1/2 day walk option
Same as above but start at Oktyabrskaya (Russian: Октябрьская) Metro station. Because you are still fresh soak up the atmosphere of Gorky park, Follow the Moscow river, pass Neskuchny Sad (Garden), climb up Sparrow Hills (Russian: Воробьёвы го́ры, Vorobyovy Gory), known as Lenin Hills (Ле́нинские го́ры, Leninskiye Gory) between 1935 and 1999 and finish at University complex.
Useful hint: Rent a bike at Gorky park.

I am visiting Moscow with my wife in December and want to visit as many of the seven sisters as we can as part of researching a self directed art project. I am interested to know how best to visit and see the university.
Written June 29, 2015
Hi,
I have been visiting Moscow since years for business purposes. The University is a must to see. It's the tallest University in the world. The gathering place in front of the University can be accepted as a terrace of Moscow. You are able to notice all other sisters from that terrace. I strongly recommend you to go there by metro and walk(if the cold will not that severe) There is a kind of museum in the university.(Upfloors) if you are able to find a way to access there, it could be really helpfull for you to find more inspiration for the project. Please also make a research for the 8th sister which Stalin planned to build.
Enjoy!
