Founded by Mikhail Abramov, this art project resurrects one of the best traditions of the Russian patronage which laid the foundation for collecting, studying and authenticating the works of the Russian icon painting. It is a unique in Russia private collection of Byzantine and Old Russian art that obtained the official status of public museum and became member of the IСOM (International Council of Museums).Every day the Museum organizes free survey and thematic excursions for all comers, museum consultants are always available, a lecture centre is operated, concerts and presentations are organized. We are always happy to see in our Museum everyone who is interested in Russian culture.

When visiting a museum that exhibits a collection of icons I always have a strong feeling that they are out of place there, they shouldn’t hang on a wall next to secular paintings even if the latter are real masterpieces. To me, the icons just don’t belong in a “museum”. That’s why I literary had to force myself to visit... More

Very interested in the matter of icons and especially in russian ones, I was pleasantly surprised when we visited this rich museum of russian icons. It is located in Taganka District, in the Goncharnaya street. The building, in which the very rich collection of the icons is settled, is very modern. This private museum of the Orthodox Christian possesses more... More

It's an amazing collection and presented in a modern, sympathetic setting. The museum only opened about 8 years ago in Goncharnaya ul and, I understand, they are... More

Probably best available exhibition of icons in Moscow. Of cause possible to find older icons, however not in such quantity. My advise to take excursion guide - a lot of interesting information.
