Was in Bolshoi before and after renovation. Yes, it needed one. And a very good job was done. But it cost 35 bln RUB - US $ 1 bln at then exchange rate!!! And the building is much more modest and smaller than Opera Garnier (Grand Opera) in Paris or Vienna Opera. Where did all that money go? Insiders even... More

Private tour (2 + Bolshoi staff guide) from top to bottom of this amazing place. Tour included auditions and rehearsals happening and costumes being made. Then in the evening the opening performance of ballet, Jewels, in the historic theatre. Book online on the theatre website which is easy to navigate and seating plans give the probability % of blocked views... More

I have been ecstatic every time I have been at the Bolshoi: the productions are top class, singers wonderful and choreography interesting. We had 2nd best tickets and paid 160 euros : very reasonable. The theater was restored recently to its former glory and it is impressive. If you would like a glass of champagne think twice: I paid almost... More

We were lucky enough to get tickets to the ballet here. Our seats were on the top level just to the side of the royal box. We were the second row back and unfortunately I had a woman in front of me who insisted on sitting forward and totally blocked my view if I sat back in my chair. So... More

We attended the small stage which is just as impressive, and were seated on the balcony with unobstructed views of the stage, watching Madame Butterfly, a stunning performance!

This is the most beautiful theater you will ever see, and the performances are top notch. We considered trying to do a tour of the theater, but opted to go to a performance instead. The performance route is the way to go, since it provides the true experience of the venue with world class opera, ballet, and musicians. Book your... More

Unable to obtain tickets for the ballet, we went for an production called " The Nightingale, The Emporer and Death " in the Bolshoi New Theatre which is next to the main theatre. It was advertised as a children's show ?. The children loved it . They were all dressed immaculately. It was a treat. We were also impressed with... More

The tour tickets are only available on the day of the tour and are limited to 15-20. If you want tickets, then go early. The tour times are 11am for Russian and 11:15am for English. To attend a performance then tickets should be purchased a couple months in advance. They can be purchased online at the Bolshoi Theatre website. This... More

Even if your not into ballot, this is a must to experience. After extensive renovation, the theatre is amazing to see.The production of Don Quixote that we saw was beautifully done, and memorable.

Staying in Tverskaya

Neighborhood Profile
Tverskaya can’t be discovered with just a first glance, the neighborhood is shaped around a long street populated with well-known shops and brands. But it’s more than shopping that makes this place interesting. Take a few steps into the streets running parallel to the main artery to discover the charm just behind the mighty Stalinist style architecture. Comfy European pedestrian streets Bolshaya Dmitrovka or Stoleshnikov lane are a great place to start. Locals can be found here working, eating, shopping, resting and going to the Bolshoi Theatre in the evening.
