I have not attended an event here yet. I did take the tour. The guide spoke excellent English. She did an excellent job at explaining the history and all the features of the theater. During our tour they were preparing for an event and lights were being experiemented with to get everything just right. It was fun to be there... More

I tried to buy tickets for the ballet when they first became available for sale but they were extraordinarily expensive plus sold out within a few days, so we opted instead to attend (for the first time in our lives) the opera at the new theatre next door, which was built for when the historic theatre was being renovated. The... More

It is advisable that you plan your visit according to the website's opening and visit timings. Visits feature a tour guide either in Russian or English. Make you sure you go early (30minutes before opening) as there was a lot of people trying to visit it and visits have a limited number of participants. A magnificent place that will mezmerize... The Bolshoi is stunning after the renovations. Book in advance as good tickets sell quickly. The closer the seats to the center the better the view. In the off season (Jul - Sep) you can do theater historic building tour.

We saw an amazing, modernistic production of Berlioz's Damnation of Faust. AND were treated to the gorgeous golden interior of the theater. AND were treated to the fabulous way people dress up for the opera in Moscow.

I'll never regret visiting Bolshoi which I though was magic! I sat on 1 fl balcony, 1 row, perfectly in the middle. Bought tickets from the official page, everything went smoothly!

The website says show up at 12:15 for the English tour, but you must have a wrist band that they issue at 11 AM. Typical lack of understanding of how much money they could make if they were truly capitalist. It must be some sort of state secret, if they only knew how much money was on the table.....

Be prepared to dress up. You will need to get tickets months in advance. These can be booked on line on the Bolshoi website. Prices range from reasonable to outrageously expensive - but then compare with Royal Opera House it is similar. Anyone who goes uses the opportunity to dress up for the occasion. It is smaller inside than imagined.... More

Staying in Tverskaya

Neighborhood Profile
Tverskaya
Tverskaya can’t be discovered with just a first glance, the neighborhood is shaped around a long street populated with well-known shops and brands. But it’s more than shopping that makes this place interesting. Take a few steps into the streets running parallel to the main artery to discover the charm just behind the mighty Stalinist style architecture. Comfy European pedestrian streets Bolshaya Dmitrovka or Stoleshnikov lane are a great place to start. Locals can be found here working, eating, shopping, resting and going to the Bolshoi Theatre in the evening.
