At every stage of the experience Alex was friendly, professional and informative. He had a wealth of knowledge about the city and Russian culture and was patient with us tourists and enthusiastic to accommodate our interests. If this was a paid private tour I would have been happy with the experience so given this is free it was more than... More

Alex was bang on time, spoke great English, with all the idioms, and knew his stuff. Great Metro tour and then the Soviet Exhibition. He finally organised an English tour of bunker 42 on the phone and took us there.

We were first time visitors to Russia and Moscow Greeters gave us a great introduction. From our initial exchange of emails to meeting in person, it was a real pleasure to meet with Alex. He very kindly came to our hotel on our first night and helped us with everything from the practicalities of getting metro tickets, buying a local... More

We had the chance to have Katya as our greeter to Moscow. She was really kind and helpful from the beginning and she even brought an Italian-speaking friend to help my husband understand better, since he does not speak English. They stayed with us for the whole evening and gave us a lot of information and many useful tips. They... More

It was really a great experience to see the town through the eyes of a local! My greeter, Katya, is such a nice and interesting person, with a vast knowledge of her town. And it's also thanks to her I could love so much this wonderful town and its amazing people! See you in my next trip to Russia!!

Our guide Alexey was happy to work around our young daughter's nap schedule. Knowing that our interests included architecture, parks, and shopping for handmade goods, he met us at our hotel and took us to the VDNKh exhibition centre, where there are opulent fountains and buildings, plus a small bazaar. He even showed us where to buy some delicious local... More

Alexey brought us to the Catherine's Palace as we've already seen a bit of Moscow through another tour group when we met up with him. We also passed by the Bolshoi Theater and he gave us some explanation about it. He was rather tired from his night work but he still showed up to give us the tour. A nice... More

Wow- what a wonderful experience to have a local take us around for an evening. Alex was a wonderful local guide- he was the best part of our trip. He was informative, entertaining and a delight. He took us to the best site that we would not have otherwise visited.

I have to admit that the concept is interesting and if you have the change to meet a fantastic person as Vera, passionated, cultivated, young nevertheless of such an impressive culture and intensity, even the 5 stars are limited! Then I propose 5 stars for the service and an extra one for the real star of the Moscow Greeter, Vera!... More

Checked Moscow Greeter online and paid $30 dollars for the group. Got email from Alex, first set for 3:00 pm, then want to change meeting time to 5:00 pm. Thought that he mush very busy or short of people to do the tour, Suggest to have evening tour of the center of Moscow, even off to pay for the dinner,... More

It is a pity that you have evaluated our service as ‘terrible’ without attending any of our tours. In fact your request came in a very last moment (less than 2 weeks before arrival) but still we have managed to find you a Greeter for your forthcoming visit. Let me remind you that our Greeters are volunteers and they voluntarily... More

Staying in Patriarch Ponds

Neighborhood Profile
Patriarch Ponds
When you need to hide from the city’s noise and traffic but don’t want to stroll too far, Patriarch Ponds is the place to be. Calm water, friendly swans and ducks with beautiful early 20th century architecture in the background make this neighborhood a place you’ll never want to leave. Besides stylish bars and restaurants scattered in the streets around the pond, you’ll be able to enjoy museum life from modern art to a former private apartment of Mikhail Bulgakov. As most of the businesses are open late, stop for a cocktail and then stroll by the pond to rent a boat and row yourself to the middle of the “bowl” as the locals call it.
