Important historical place in a very convenient location
Aug 2019
A long-held dream of mine has finally come true: I have slept in The Peter's Palace in Moscow, which I had seen so many times whilst growing up in Moscow. Only recently has it become possible to see inside. It is both a museum and a hotel. The hotel is listed as 5-star but, it is not. I think it is almost impossible to locate a 'perfect' hotel in a historical building with such a history that also belongs to the Moscow government. When one enters through the main door you are greeted by a very unpleasant uniformed man who orders you to lift your luggage and place it on a conveyer belt that will take it through an Xray chamber (as at an airport). The man shows no intention to help you. So much for 5 stars! But the reception staff are much better. They are friendly and helpful, (with the exception of a young man, who told me when I thought he would accept my money for some gifts I had gathered at reception, and asked if he had any wrapping paper, that "he does not run a souvenir shop" The room we were shown to was spacious and well-appointed. There was a strange buzzing noise, however, which nobody knew how to stop. It was rather loud at night. We thought the sound came from the air -conditioning, but when we switched that off, the sound continued.
The cleaning was perfectly adequate. The cleaners are probably responsible for a nice touch: on my husband's birthday. In the evening we found a lovely cake in the room. We believe a cleaner saw the presents and cards on the dressing table. They must then have told the management about his occasion. Thank you! The spa was good and mostly deserted. The services in the restaurant and at the bar was extremely slow. The Sunday brunch included with the tour around the palace was marvelous. (We wish to thank Maria, the Palace Tour Guide for an excellent and interesting insight into the history of the Palace). Overall we were pleased with our stay in the Palace and hope to return one day.

Palace with a difficult fate
Aug 2017 • Solo
This palace, like many historical buildings of Moscow, has a difficult fate. All my life until recently, it was known to me as a complex of buildings of the Air force Academy. It always looked grim, although in principle it was on the territory of the Petrovsky park, only on sunny days it could acquire some kind of good look, and only then its architectural advantages and originality became noticeable. Now it is basically a luxury hotel under the management of the famous "Metropolis" - with a restaurant, concert and banquet halls. In this capacity, it looks much prettier. Although the status of the travel palace or the country residence for the Imperial family or even the place of coronation of Russian emperors - namely here was crowned the last Emperor of Russia Nicholas II, it is now far away. However, officially it is the house of receptions of the government of Moscow.

Nice from the outside
I always wanted to visit that fascinating historical place and once I received a chance. Tickets have been bought in 2 months in advance! The day came! We were allowed to enter only with passports and tickets. And we are in! But...there's nothing interesting inside - only a couple halls with the history of Moscow stands. Nothing worth 10$ ticket price. Now there's a hotel inside, do if you want to make pictures of the place, just book a room for a night and enjoy your photos
