The Serbian Orthodox Church stands (with its back) at the main Uniri square, on its western side. The front facade and the main entrance are in the next street, although you can also access it from the square.
The Church dates back to 18c built for a large Serbian community in the region.
The simple, yet elegant Baroque facade hides very beautiful and ornate interiors.

In Timisoara during the XVII-XVIII century used to be a very strong serbian community - Timisoara has been over the centuries a cultural crucible - and the Cathedral was "acquired" by the serbian community in the mid 1800's .
The main entrance Cathedral is situated on the Emanuil Ungureanu street , but it can be accessed from the Unirii Square too.
It is built in baroque style - actually rebuilt on the later part of the 1700's since the original building was partially destroyed by fire. (and has several classical influences - the use of Greek columns as an example of that)
Visiting is free of charge - nonetheless donations are welcome - however pay attention to dress appropriately and if you arrive during service do not disturb.
When I've been visiting, it was empty - lighting wasn't the best - as can be seen in the pictures, still for those of you into architecture and arts it can be really interesting.
Overall a beautiful building, regardless if you are religious or not it is definitely worth visiting. (pending on the hour decide to visit you might not be able to go inside - like many other churches in Timisoara, is not always open).

This 18th century baroque church is one of the most beautiful Serbian Orthodox churches with stunning interior that can be compared to loveliest European churches of that period. It is not huge, but the paintings and altar are the masterpieces.

Probably the church would not be so visited if its back would not occupy a part of one of the Unirii Square’s sides. Being in the square it’s worth looking for the church’s entrance and to go inside; there one gets a sense of beauty and harmony. Enjoy!

It was cold and raining hard outside, very few tourists venturing out. Located at the Uniril Square, I noticed its gate to be open. Its front door located at the other side of the Square was also opened.

I was the only visitor and the staff did not bother to turn on the lights! It was difficult to see the altar and other decorations of this Church. Said my prayers here before leaving.

Although located at the main square of Timisoara, one can easily miss this church, since the entrance is not from the main square, but from opposite side of the building.
Very important and beautiful site.

Even though the exterior doesn't look so promising in regards to architectural beauty, its interior is, quite the contrary, amazingly beautiful. This church was builty by the Serbian Orthodox Church for the local Serbian community in the 18th century and has been the center of this community. Today it has a similar role. Details and decorations in Cathedral's interior are quite interesting and thus highly recommendable for a visit. Since it's situated in Timisoara's center, try not to miss this church, you won't regret it.

Before this trip to Timisoara, I was in Belgrade and heard about this church. So, earlier, Serbs lived in this city and gathered in this beautiful church, which is located in the very heart of the city.

Nice although it had a darker atmosphere that didn't match teh whiteness of the building from the outside.

The entrance is on the other side of piazza of union square. It is being renovated on the outside and is quite beautiful, yet understated on the inside. Built in 1886 it is an impressive building.
