Our bike tour with Szabo and Joe was the best biking tour we've had! My boyfriend and I were promptly met by our guides and we headed outside of the city to see the countryside of Cluj. It was GORGEOUS! Szabo took us on dirt trails that wove through villages, farms, and the wooded forests. We biked about 30 km to the Turda Gorge, which was beautiful. Joe had prepared us a wonderful lunch of fresh cheeses, meats, vegetables, bread, and coffee. Everything was delicious and we watched two shepherds herd their flocks as we ate. Such an authentic experience. Both Joe and Szabo were very friendly and helped us get to know the traditions of Romania and it's history. We hiked through the gorge and were then driven to the salt mines which were unlike anything we had seen before. We ended the day with a coffee overlooking the city of Cluj. Fantastic day with fantastic guides! A must do when in Cluj!!

Last year we visited Romania. Our trip lasted 12 days. We visited so many beautiful cities but since we are a family with 3 active kids ages 10, 13 and 14 our favorite tour was the bike tour in Cluj Napoca. We met our guide Thomash the day before at a local restaurant. He was very personal, respectful, polite, caring and love biking. He guided us in this amazing biking tour that went for about 28 kilometers. We never imagine that we were capable of biking this much. We went through the beautiful countryside in the region. Tomash was good at encouraging us to continue, and made sure that we were all doing well. He even brought typical Romanian chocolates that we ate during the break. After completing the bike ride we went on a hike over a small river and canyon walls with breathtaking views of The Valley. Then we ate a delicious lunch of fresh vegetables, Romanian ham, cheese and home made bread at a very sweet and caring old couple’s house in the countryside. The lady made the fresh lunch for us while the husband gave our children a tour of their stable with different animals as well as their garden. We love our overall experience. The biking tour was definitely the highlight of our trip to Romania.

As a walking guide myself based in Ituren in the Basque Pyrenees I am always a little discerning when I hire the services of other guides on holiday - but my day with Szabi was wonderful and actually a great introduction to the rest of my stay in Romania when his introduction to the history and culture of the country gave me a great platform for the rest of my wanderings. We actually went walking instead of cycling, about an hour outside of Cluj to a series of charming Hungarian villages - carrying a picnic of cheese, hams and salads that Szabi had picked up from the market that morning - enjoying it under the trees in a meadow full of flowers. We visited the locals and walked the hills and had the benefit of not only Szabi's professionalism but his personal contacts with the locals too - entering their houses and getting to know their traditions. This did not have the feeling of a piped tour - something far more personal. What a wonderful country this is. On the way home Szabi went out of his way and stopped to help my buy maps and give me contacts for the rest of my trip - this was the best start i could have hoped for for my stay in Romania. THANK YOU Szabi - i hope to be sending some of my own Basque walking clients your way. You have a beautiful country to be cherished. Multumesc!

A friend and I took this tour on the 4th of July, and it was amazing! We were picked up from our hotel in Cluj and transported to the place where the tour would begin. The tour was through some rural Romania villages and it was beautiful. We stopped and talked with many local to find out more about the amazing culture and way-of-life of the villagers. The guides were awesome and even organized a lunch for us of traditional food that was home cooked! The tour guides were extremely nice and accommodating. They had very good English and were very nice to talk to. If you are not sure if you want to take a bike tour or not, THIS IS A MUST. This bike tour was one of the best things we did while visiting Cluj and was very much worth it. The next time I visit Cluj I will definitely take another one of their tours!

We started our bike trip at around 10 in the morning our small group of 7 gathered our bikes from one of the outdoor cinemas (where they were stored)
The route we took was interesting too, with lots of ups and downs, Szabi guided us along a more off-road path (he also had a "safer" route planned out, but let us choose which one to take, which was nice of him :-)
We even ended up biking through corn fields and marshy, wooded areas as well. By the end we were all muddy and tired but boy was it fun!
The trip itself took us through the land surrounding Biertan (or Birthälm), a quiet little Saxon village we were staying at during the horror film festival. We rode our bikes through the surrounding villages, stopping at some of the fortified churches we saw.
One of our most lengthy stops was to go visit a family that produced charcoal using a traditional method, which consisted of piling wood (oak mostly) in a heap known as a clamp, covering it with soil and straw and letting it burn until it completely turned to charcoal.
The bike ride lasted about 4 hours and I loved it! It added a bit of exercise to our movie going experience :D.

We spent fantastic 4 days in Transylvania, thanks to Szabolcs, who is a very kind and prepared tourist guide. I can only recommend him and TransyBike for everyone who wants to go for a trip in Romania. He guided us to beautiful places; all our questions were answered, whether it was about history or today’s issues. He knows the best restaurants and bars, whether it serves authentic or a modern cuisine. His accommodation choices did not disappoint us. He made the program in a way that we can get into the rural and the urban life of the country too. Whatever season you are in the country, do not miss the Margau National Park, there is a breathtaking waterfall there. In Hanasesti we could walk through the snowy landscape, and we could see the inhabitants (so called “mócok”) of the village on their horse-drawn sleighs. Our hosts were very nice and they served us a heavenly breakfast. We visited the Scarisoara Ice Cave which houses the second biggest underground glacier in south-eastern Europe. It is worth to visit the Torda salt mine, where we can get acquainted with the history of the mine through a very professional exhibition. In Kolozsvár we not only looked the historical monuments, but Szabi also showed us the nightlife too. Visiting the Bánffy Castle in Bonchida was also a huge experience for us. I am sure that if we go to Transylvania next time, we will request Szabi for guiding us again.

We have done quite a few self guided cycling trips in different countries, but this one with Transybike was by far the best. What made it special was the wonderful owner of Transybike, Szabi. He was easy to deal with when booking and devised a great trip to fit the number of days we had. He was warm and friendly, funny and informative, super flexible and always went the extra mile to ensure everything ran smoothly. We enjoyed spending time with him in the evenings when we arrived at our guesthouses. Care had been taken to select a variety of old and new guesthouses and always with great food. Through Szabi, we also got to meet some interesting locals and experience Romania's "aggressive hospitality" (you WILL have another palinka shot!). The mountain bikes we used were high spec and in good condition - no problems at all - and the biking was a mixture of small tarmac roads, gravel tracks and some challenging technical rides in the mountains. Romania is a fascinating and enchanting place - we enjoyed seeing two regions (the rural landscape of Maramures and the mountains of Bukovina). I strongly recommend a trip with Transybike, whether it's just for one day, on a group tour or as a self guided trip. You won't be disappointed!!!

I was looking for a day hike to do near Cluj and I found TransyBike on TripAdvisor. Szabi was my guide and he did a great job. He answered all my questions about the history of Transylvania on the way. We hiked Szekler’s Stone in Rimetea and it was a very enjoyable climb. There are incredible views all along and you can see the village from the peak. Szabi brought food fresh from the market for lunch. After the hike, we browsed the booths and food stands at the Double Rise festival in Rimetea. Wonderful experience.

My sisters and I just returned from a 4 day cycling trip through Transylvania with TransyBike. What an amazing trip! Our days were spent cycling between villages and up and over the beautiful hills and valleys in the region. Along the way, we toured historic sites such as medieval fortified churches, visited charcoal burners and learned about the history of the area. Our evenings were spent in small, authentic Saxon villages at restored historic guesthouses and included the warm hospitality and delicious homemade cooking of local families. I feel as though we experienced the culture and history of this area in a way that we could have never done on our own.
Our guide, Szabi, made all of this possible with his warm personality, the itinerary he planned and flexibility he provided to adapt to our needs. Our group had differing athletic abilities and he was willing and able to alter our route daily if needed. He also made us feel at home and comfortable immediately and was always willing to share cultural information or history about the area.
I would highly recommend TransyBike to anyone who wants to visit this beautiful part of Romania.

I'd been to Transylvania a few times over the years and it's safe to say I have never seen it like this before. Szabi is an absolute legend, he planned an incredible route that catered for our needs perfectly. We were all at various levels in terms of cycling, but Szabi and his crew made sure that no one got left out. Not only did he show us some fantastic landscape but also shared with us some more cultural sides of the area. It was a real education.
The guys behind TransyBike are true professionals, there's no doubt in my mind in recommending them to anyone who wants to see the real Transylvania.
